Your brain doesn’t have an off switch. But it does have a window.

That thought that won’t stop looping. The “what if” that hijacks your whole afternoon. The 2 AM spiral about something that happened three years ago. We’ve all been there:

  • The parent replaying every decision they made today, wondering if it was enough
  • The student staring at a group chat, convinced everyone else has it figured out
  • The person driving to work, already rehearsing an argument that hasn’t happened yet
  • The one lying in bed, mentally re-reading a text for the tenth time
  • You, right now, carrying a worry that’s been running in the background all day

Here’s the truth: you don’t have to solve every worry the moment it shows up. You can schedule it instead.

Try this: The 10-Minute Worry Window

  • Pick a time each day — 10 minutes, same time if you can.
  • When a worry pops up outside that window, jot it down and tell yourself: “Not now. Later.”
  • When your window opens, let yourself worry fully. Set a timer if it helps.
  • When time’s up, close it. Physically stand up, take a breath, move on.

This isn’t about ignoring what’s bothering you. It’s about giving your mind permission to rest in between. Worry doesn’t disappear just because you name a time for it — but it does lose some of its grip.

If your worry window keeps spilling into everything else, that’s worth talking about too:

  • 988 Lifeline: Call or text 988 (24/7)
  • Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741741
  • Find local DC support: knowyourpathdc.com

Small tools, practiced daily, add up. You’re allowed to worry. You’re also allowed to let it go.

1409 T Street, NW photo by Oswald T. Berbur

Oswald writes: “Today’s first photo reports that the Butter Me Up sign on T St. that appeared last December has now disappeared without the restaurant ever having opened. Was the sign relocated to the BMU that did open in Montgomery Mall? Will National Taco be returning?”

Ed. Note: When Montgomery Mall did open we were told T Street would still be coming “this Summer”. Stay tuned.

Dear PoPville

Update: “The owner and dog were found yesterday. The dog has been taken into a 10 day quarantine by animal control. We found out today he has a current rabies vaccine (big relief). We are uncertain what will happen after the 10days, but at present it sounds like he will be released to his prior owner (who was questioned, but not taken into custody). A concern for ongoing public safety persists. The immediate threat of the dog and rabies has been removed, but potentially only for the next 9 days.”

“Dear PoPville,

Dog Attack: Yesterday my 1.5-year-old was attacked by an unleashed pit-bull at the Park at LeDroit. Please help us find the man in the video and his dog, we need to confirm rabies is not a threat and ensure the dog is not a threat to others.

Details: ~11am yesterday a man (middle aged, African American) and his dog (white pit-bull with black spots) came to the Park at LeDroit, yelled at the Nannie’s and babies about how this was his park and then his dog attacked my son at the splash pad. (more…)

OK, on March 25th 2019 the first GA series was spotted. Since that day I’ve been counting down the arrival of the HA series. Doth my eyes deceive me? I think not, I’ve spotted this JA car two mornings in a row now. Now so many questions: What the heck happened to H and I series? Did they get skipped entirely or was a JA issued by mistake? Has anyone else spotted a JA plate? Anyone spot an HA plate?

Update: Yup, the JAs are out since Hs are for taxis and Is look too much like ones apparently. Still confusing, as a few have noted, where did the GW-GZs go? Nevertheless, welcome J series!! Standby for the K series in a few years. God willing.
