“Dear PoPville,
My name is Clarissa. I’m a DC resident whose mom has been hospitalized since 02/16/2022 with pancreatitis and other complications caused from pancreatitis. Currently, she is hospitalized at UPMC Montefiore in Pittsburgh, PA.
My mom’s name is Michelle and she is a lover and a warrior. She has been through so much in her life, including beating breast cancer in 2015/2016. Through everything she has been through, she has remained a funny and loving wife, mom, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She is the oldest of 11 children and is truly the life of the party. She is sorely missed at home, especially by her 9 year old daughter. She is the best mom to my older brother, little sister and me. She supports us and loves us for who we are, and for that we are eternally grateful for her.
Like many people around the world, my mom has been struggling with loneliness throughout the pandemic. This long term hospitalization has not made the loneliness any easier. For those who are unable to donate monetarily, mail would also be a meaningful reminder of love and support for my mom. I’m hoping some of the love she has put out into the world, can come back to her, in a time of need. For anyone interested in sending mail, please private message me on Instagram at c_leopatra, or email me at [email protected].
My mom’s biggest wish is to make it home and also make it to a beach. We are hopeful with her will power and strength, both of these wishes will come true!
*She has also always wanted to attend the Cherry Blossom Festival, and has not yet had the chance since I have moved to DC. I’m praying I will be able to bring her there next year!
Much love to DC and beyond,
Clarissa ”

From a press release:
“Four commissioned public art pieces were announced today by the 11th Street Bridge Park – a partnership between the local non-profit Building Bridges Across the River and the District government – reflecting the park’s design principles and values. In response to over 200 community meetings where public art was prioritized, a lighted sculpture inspired by plants growing along the Anacostia River; a mural depicting the African American and Native American experiences tied to caring for the land, hammocks created to honor DC culture reflective of the community; and design of a mobile, small business kiosk aimed at supporting East of the River Black entrepreneurs were selected from over 60 entries by the park’s curatorial committee comprised of local residents, experts, and artists. The city may be in the thick of a steamy DC July, but the open house circuit is anything but sleepy. With 370 open houses across the District this weekend, there’s no shortage of air-conditioned rowhouses, renovated condos, and light-filled Logan Circle townhomes to tour before the Saturday heat peaks. Grab an iced coffee and make a day of it. To see the full DC Open House list, click here.

“Dear PoPville,
I visiting the US for the first time, arrived 2 days ago in Washington before heading to Phillie tomorrow. Absolutely love the city BTW!!
But I have no clue of what to expect in term of safety, police or if I should be cautious.
Anyway around 4.30pm, in l’Enfant Plaza, we where taking the escalator down to the lower platform to go the other side of the red line.
When reaching the bottom of the escalator and almost being on the blue line platform, someone sprayed my arm from the escalator going up. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Just wanted to share an amazing experience I had getting my 18-month old daughter’s first dose of the covid vaccine at the Ward 4 Covid Center on 13th St. this morning (Wed.) The DC Covid website hasn’t been updated yet and I got all of my information from Twitter, so wanted to share our experience in case it helps another parent.
I was expecting big crowds, so we arrived an hour early at 9 am before the Covid Center opened at 10 am and we were first in line. (more…)

Thanks, I think, to Mustafa for sending: “DC living is hard!”
The rats are getting so big this is apparently becoming a thing…
