Metrobus

Metrobus will begin service on a “moderate” weather service plan on Wednesday. Under the moderate service plan, Metrobus service will be available on 160 regional commuter routes. Additionally, Metro will run the 32 Metrobus school trips to the extent possible, given road conditions.

Bus riders are advised that even on routes where service is operating, delays and detours are possible due to road conditions. More information on how buses operate under a moderate snow plan

Additional bus routes will be restored when it is safe to do so. Metro continues to encourage riders to sign up for MetroAlerts  to receive email or text-message updates for their specific routes.

Metrorail

The Metrorail system will open at 5 a.m. on the Red, Orange, Blue, Green and Yellow lines.  It is not yet known whether service can be restored on the Silver Line in time for morning rush hour due to ongoing ice and snow clearing efforts.  In the event that rail service is not restored on the Silver Line, free shuttle buses will be provided starting at 5 a.m. between all Silver Line stations and West Falls Church, where connections can be made to the Orange Line. From WMATA:

“Metro will be unable to restore train service at four Orange Line stations that had been expected to reopen this morning: Vienna, Dunn Loring, West Falls Church and East Falls Church. The change in service plan is due to weather-related damage and icing issues with the electrified third rail that were discovered overnight as test trains were run on the line. Specifically, test trains were unable to move through the area reliably and maintain third-rail power to sustain service.

Metro’s priority is ensuring that trains in passenger service are able to operate safely and reliably.

Orange Line service is running between Ballston and New Carrollton every 12 minutes. Affected Orange Line customers in Virginia should use Ballston Station until further notice.

Metro apologizes for the inconvenience and is working restore service to these stations–as well as five Silver Line stations–as soon as possible.”

Blue Line trains will operate between Largo Town Center and Huntington, and Yellow Line trains will operate between Mt. Vernon Square and Huntington. Braddock Road Station remains closed at this time.

Metro has already restored service on the following Metrorail lines:

Orange Line: Ballston to New Carrollton
Red Line: Medical Center to Glenmont
Green Line: Fort Totten to Branch Avenue

Trains are currently running every 20-25 minutes, and the system will remain open until midnight. Fares will not be charged on Metrorail on Monday, January 25. Metro will announce the opening of additional Metrorail segments as they are clear of ice and snow.”

“Dear PoPville,

Can you have a space where people can post about their experiences with local transportation, Metro, buses, roads, what’s plowed and what isn’t, adventures in getting from point A to point B, etc.? (I’m supposed to be flying out of DCA to Buffalo, of all places, this afternoon. Wish me luck with that.)”

Yesterday we learned metro would be stopping service at 11pm through the weekend.

From the DC Taxi Commission:

“In conjunction with the declaration by Mayor Bowser of a snow emergency, the DC Taxicab Commission authorizes the Snow Emergency Fare effective for District taxicabs on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 9:30 am. The fare will remain in effect for 12 hours unless extended as determined by the weather conditions. The Snow Emergency Fare allows taxicabs to add a flat fee of $15.00 to the metered charge.”

From DC Circulator:

“#Alert Due to the severe weather headed our way DCCirculator will suspend service at 5pm Fri and cancel service this weekend. #safetyfirst”

From DCDPW:

“Once the Official Snow Emergency announced by DC government goes into effect Friday, January 22 at 9:30 am, then DCUSA will allow nearby residents to utilize the parking facility for the price of $1 per day. Upon arrival, the resident will receive a ticket and have their name and license plate information recorded by a U Street attendant. On their departure, the resident will present the same ticket received in order to get the discounted parking rate. Once the emergency has been lifted, any residents still utilizing parking in the garage will be charged the difference, at the standard rate, for the time they were in the garage.

Vehicle owners have a 2-hour grace period from the time the snow emergency declaration ending announcement to retrieve their vehicle without receiving any additional charges.”
