Yesterday a reader reported:

“I was at the Dupont Circle Ping Pong on Sunday, and the waitress told us that they would be closing. She did not indicate how soon it would be occurring, but she did say that the Chinatown location would be remaining open.

I was surprised because it seems like the Dupont location does good business – thought others might be interested to know!”

And this morning another reader passes on confirmation from the building management:

“As of today January 20, 2016 Ping Pong Dim Sum restaurant located at One Dupont Circle will officially close its doors for business.

We are actively moving forward to identify a new tenant for the space.”

Ping Pong opened their Dupont location back in 2011 and their first DC location opened at 900 7th Street, NW in Chinatown back in Dec. ’09.

How long does construction typically last?

“I’m considering buying a condo in a building at 18th & Q, but I know that the St. Thomas Church half a block away is planning to build a ~6 story building on their property in the near-ish future. What I’m wondering is, how long does construction typically take for a mid-size building like the one planned? (You can google something like ‘st thomas parish dc redevelopment’ to see the renderings.) And during what hours are builders allowed to operate loud machinery in DC?

Thank you as always for your collective wisdom!”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m writing in hopes of finding recommendations from your readers for indoor swimming pools. With the closing of the National Capital YMCA, I’m trying to find a new lap pool in the area but keep coming up blank!

I know the Anthony Bowen YMCA is open but am looking for something a little closer to downtown. I was wondering if any readers might know of some local pools (maybe ones that are part of another facility, like the JCC) or have any recommendations?

Thanks!”

Thanks to a reader for sending these photos announcing the replacement at the recently closed Hello Cupcake space in Dupont – Un Je Ne Sais Quoi, a French pastry shop.

Merveilleux is:

“a small cake that originated in Belgium and is now found in France and some U.S. cities. It consists of a sandwich of two light meringues welded with whipped cream which has been covered with whipped cream and dusted with chocolate shavings. A candied cherry sometimes decorates the cake.”

Updates when an opening date is announced.
