Or the street chickens are kicking it up a notch. Anyway this sucks for The Chickery. They only opened up in the former burger spot last week.
Anyone stop by for a taste yet?

From a press release:
“The Dupont Underground, the nonprofit organization that is revitalizing the former trolley station beneath D.C.’s iconic Dupont Circle into a new venue for art, performance, and creative activation, is pleased to announce the launch of Re-Ball!, an open design competition for a site-specific installation in part of the subterranean space. The exhibition and events that occur during its run will be the first time the old station has been opened up for use in two decades.
Re-Ball! is the result of a Dupont Underground partnership with the National Building Museum to reuse the hundreds of thousands of translucent 3-inch plastic balls that were part of the museum’s blockbuster BEACH installation last summer. In addition to donating the balls, the National Building Museum will also have a representative on the competition jury, help promote the Re-Ball! competition and exhibition, and assist with the installation and programming. We confirmed the scuttlebutt in October but it’s still hard to believe today is the last day for Dupont’s YMCA.
“The facility will close as a YMCA as of December 31, 2015.
The Y plans to utilize the proceeds from the sale of the YMCA National Capital facility to serve more region-wide residents and provide more volunteer and employment opportunities, thus increasing its impact in the region. In addition, proceeds from the sale will allow the Y to contribute to the revitalization of existing region-wide community/ neighborhood-based Ys, reinvest in programs and services that serve families (such as Youth Advocacy, Achievement Gap, Early Child Development and STEM), alleviate existing debt, and contribute to determining the feasibility of establishing another YMCA facility in Washington, DC.”

Thanks to Caitlin for sending: “I leave for 1 week and this pops up. 4 different restaurants in 1.5 years.”
This has been quite a roller coaster from La Frontera Cantina to Ultimo Lounge to Divino Grill. Next up Malbec. Their Facebook page says:
“Argentine Restaurant · Fine Dining Restaurant · Family Style Restaurant”
Check out their menus here.

Perhaps putting our current street chicken issues in context, a reader reports: “Looks like The Chickery is opening today.”

Thanks to a reader for sending word on Saturday night. Hello Cupcake posted the news to their facebook page last Wednesday. Back in 2014 they closed their Baracks Row location.

There are no words. Thank you to Cat for passing on this tribute from Bub and Pop’s for their son/brother Peter Taub.
Thanks to Elayne for passing on the GoFundMe page for the family left behind.

Heart wrenching news from Bub and Pops:
“12/22/2015. My son, Chef Jon’s brother, Staff Sergeant Peter Taub was one of six killed yesterday in Afghanistan. The restaurant is closed for the rest of this week.”

It took a minute but The Chickery looks ready to roll in the former Black and Orange burger spot (formerly Rogue States). Check out their menu here.
