Jazz In The Garden Kicks Off at 5pm!!

“A beloved DC summer tradition, the National Gallery of Art’s Jazz in the Garden concert series will kick off its 2019 season on Friday, May 17. In addition to the return of audience favorites like Black Masala, Son del Caribe, and the Funky Dawgz Brass Band, this year’s lineup will feature new performers like Rob Curto’s Forró for All, Adwela & the Uprising, and The Bailsmen. Every Friday evening from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. through August 23, 2019, the Gallery will invite visitors to spend an evening among the Sculpture Garden’s monumental works of art set to tunes ranging from African fusion and go-go to New Orleans Dixieland and salsa.

Highlights of this year’s schedule include the 13th year of collaboration between Jazz in the Garden and the DC JazzFest with a performance by Shannon Gunn on June 7. Visitors can enjoy new additions to the outdoor grill menu–a banh mi turkey burger with ginger soy aioli and Asian slaw and a teriyaki Impossible burger with pineapple chutney–and the Pavilion Café’s menu indoors.

The National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden is located along Constitution Avenue and Madison Drive between 7th and 9th Streets NW.

Refreshments from the Pavilion Café

Guests may purchase refreshments from a special menu of appetizers, sandwiches, pizzas, and salads indoors at the Pavilion Café, or may purchase sandwiches and burgers from the outdoor grill on the patio. A variety of beverages, including beer, wine, sangria, and sodas, is sold on-site. Outside alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited and subject to confiscation. “Momofuku CCDC Announces To-Go Counter Launch and New Menu Debut”

“Momofuku CCDC announces the opening of a dedicated to-go counter just inside the front door of the CityCenterDC restaurant. Executive chef Tae Strain’s lunch and dinner menus will be available to order from the counter, with dishes prepared and packaged with carryout in mind.

The new to-go counter is launching alongside a revamped lunch menu that’s packed with mobile-friendly items like scallion bing wraps — Chinese flatbreads filled with cumin-spiced lamb, rotisserie pork shoulder or edamame falafel. (more…)

“$122.1 million for the K Street Transitway, a major redesign of K Street NW between 12th and 21st Streets NW”

“Mayor Muriel Bowser showcased plans to design and build the K Street Transitway, a major streetscape project on K Street NW with dedicated bus lanes, enhanced bicycle accessibility, and safer pedestrian intersections. The project is projected to improve bus speeds by 30 percent for an estimated 40,000 daily bus passengers.

“As DC continues to grow and prosper, we need to reimagine our major roadways for the 21st century with infrastructure improvements that make public transportation more efficient and reliable for residents who rely on it,” said Mayor Bowser. “The K Street Transitway project will transform Downtown with dedicated bus lanes, protected bike lanes, redesigned sidewalks, and safer intersections to help keep DC moving and growing.” (more…)

Thanks to 20003ist for the Greek Deli closure update last night: “Signs are off.” And Kevin quickly confirmed “Reopening tomorrow.” [Today].

Meiwah to open in a new location downtown after closing in West End?

Yesterday we learned that Meiwah would be closing May 14 after 20 years at 1200 New Hampshire Ave, NW at M Street.

Well it’s not a lot, and again, it falls outside of my traditional chain of scuttlebutt, but, like Meridian Pint, it’s Meiwah!! And it’s something, so here goes – Jason reports:

“I talked with a Meiwah staffer today and apparently the joint’s *moving* to a venue somewhere downtown.”

I have no idea what percentage to allot this, so I’ll just say – fingers crossed and stay tuned!!

CityCenterDC’s Field of Tulips Returns April 26-28

“After welcoming 8,000 visitors in 2018, we are delighted to announce the return of Bloomia’s Field of Tulips to the District.

For one weekend, The Park at CityCenter [1098 New York Ave, NW] will be transformed into an interactive, urban garden covered in more than 40,000 tulips. Guests are welcome to visit the Field of Tulips April 26 – April 28 from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm.

Roaming the garden is free to all and tulips may be taken home for $1 a stem with a portion of all proceeds benefitting DC Central Kitchen.”
