“The Third District is currently investigating a shooting in the 1300 block of Park Road NW. A juvenile male has been transported to an area hospitals with a non life threatening injury to the leg. There is a second individual with a minor injury that we are investigating to determine if it is a gunshot wound or not. Motorists and pedestrians can expect road closures in the area as we investigate.

Anyone with information is asked to call 202-727-9099.”

Queen’s English got a stop work order after their new vestibule was installed on Sunday morning. Gotta at least love the positive attitude about their sticker! But the real question is how did someone get someone from DCRA to come out at 9:26 am on a Sunday? I’ve put in illegal construction requests for bricks falling during business hours and months later got a closed notification email and a “how did we do?” survey request.” (more…)

“Chef Alfredo Solis opens his newest venture, Anafre on Friday, November 22.

An anafre, meaning “portable oven” in Spanish, is traditionally a clay pot that has an opening in the bottom where hot coals are placed that then heat up the dish on top of the pot. The restaurant is an ode to Chef Solis’ mother who grew up on the Mexican countryside where she was tasked with cooking for the family. Since they lived without gas or electric, the anafre was their only stove. This style of cooking is interpreted in an open kitchen where most items will be prepared on over charcoal. (more…)

Last week Michael tipped us off that a liquor license application for Creole on 14th had been filed for 3365 14th Street, NW – which is the home to the coming Iron Age Korean/BBQ restaurant. Panic briefly ensued. Folks in the know said they heard that the Creole spot was really coming to the former El Tio space. The folks in the know were indeed in the know as that is exactly what’s happening. So file this as a win/win. Stay tuned for much more about Creole on 14th, which folks in the know say is very likely from the Po Boy Jim folks…as well as updates on Iron Age opening. (more…)
