This is my favorite juxtaposition of all time and pretty much captured the essence of 18th Street at that time. Anyone recognize where this is today?

Thanks to Josh for sending. Back in late August we learned that Pollo Granjero had closed on Columbia Road. Fast Food, not fast casual, proper fast food is controversial to some but I know many many people will be happy about this. To them I say – I feel ya!! To the others I say – Johnny’s Half Shell is opening soon!! Now we can all be happy and I didn’t even mention the spots from Erik Bruner-Yang and Baltimore’s Woodberry Kitchen’s Spike Gjerde…

A reader reports (thanks to all who sent emails):
“Heard lots of sirens around 6:30am and just walked down Columbia Rd and saw this. Counted at least 5 fire trucks and 2 ambulances plus some smaller emergency vehicles. It’s the building [El Rincon Espanol, 1826 Columbia Rd, NW] across from mintwood/perry’s and next to sun trust. Hard to tell what’s going on, I didn’t see or smell any smoke and the scene seemed pretty calm and under control.”

Props to the musicians and all the folks who came out to support them at Porchfest this past Saturday despite the horrible weather. Really captures what the day is all about!

From a press release:

Adams Morgan launched it in Washington, DC, four years ago and will host it again this Saturday, October 1, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Thirty-six musicians and/or bands will play at a dozen homes and businesses in the area.

“Dear PoPville,
I recently realized that with the construction going on at Marie Reed, it will likely be closed on Election Day. Any idea on the alternate polling place for voters who are meant to vote there? I tried to find something online but all of the DC websites keep telling me to go to Marie Reed.”
