From Duffy:

“My Last night at Duffy’s will be Wednesday April 6th. Which is fitting as it also happens to be our Season Opening Nats Viewing Party.

The Nats are on at 7pm and there’s no way I’d rather spend my last night here than hanging out at Duffy’s watching Nats baseball with all of you. So come on by and share a brew or two!

I’m very excited and Happy that we were able to bring Duffy’s back and am grateful to Casey for the opportunity to make it happen and I will be back to visit often. I have thoroughly enjoyed these last 6 months. And I’m so happy that Duffy’s is here to stay.

All my recipes including the wing sauce will remain the same…so you don’t have to worry about losing those great wings

I am very grateful and really overwhelmed by the support all of you have given Duffy’s and myself. ”

‘Twas a bit of a roller coaster ride at times but there is no doubt Duffy has left his mark on U Street/Shaw/DC. Farewell Andy. Enjoy the sun. And go Nats!!

Philly Mag reported:

“The Garces Group is still very much in expansion mode, and Jose Garces announced this week that he’s bringing a Village Whiskey to the Shaw neighborhood of Washington D.C. The bourbon bar will open at 920 N Street Northwest (Rear/Blagden Alley NW). The space will be 4,459 square feet.”

From Ivy & Coney:

“Hey Norm! If you could spend $100 to raise $15,000 for Bread for The City would you do it? I would! I’d dig up my grandpa’s tux or my old prom dress and crush hot dogs like Kobayashi! On April 14th Ivy and Coney (1537 7th St NW) gets fancy for charity and so can you! For a single crisp Benjamin you get all you can eat and drink from 7 – 11pm while supporting a great cause. Because where else can you throw back Strohs and toss peanut shells on the floor in an evening gown? Even better, you get to do all this on our brand new roof deck! No worries if you don’t have your own formal wear, a super fancy tuxedo t-shirt is included in the price! To help Bread for the City in their mission to fight poverty by providing food, clothing, medical care, and legal and social services, Ivy and Coney will donate 100% of event proceeds as well as 100% of tips to charity. We are also teaming up with Goose Island, Pernod Ricard, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Miller-Coors, Cogito Ergo Saute and others for some great silent auction items.

Grab tickets here while they last! If you cannot make the event but would still like to support Bread for the City or learn more about their mission, please visit them here.”

Zenebech
608 T Street, NW

Some sad news out of the All Souls comment thread:

“Great news for David and All Souls! On the other side of T, sad news with Zenebech Injera closing in 6 months for the new 7 story building coming in.”

We knew it was coming but this is the first I’m hearing on a closing date. Zenebech’s website says:

“Zenebech Restaurant is a family business that was started in 1993 as an injera bakery. Zenebech Dessu and Gebrehanna Demissie started the business as a means of survival after being laid off from work. The bakery was located on 11th & V NW and served both restaurants and markets all over the DC metropolitan area.

In 1999 Zenebech Restaurant relocated to it current location and expanded to include both the injera bakery and carryout orders . Over the years, we have added more dishes to our menu while using authentic Ethiopian spices and freshly baked injera.

As a small family business we take a lot of pride in our food and strive to make the tastiest Ethiopian dishes for you.

Come and eat with Zenebech!”

cat

“Dear PoPville,

I am reaching out to see if anyone else noticed the dead cat at P st and Marion on Saturday. I walked by the cat around 5 pm that afternoon, so I am not sure how long it had been there. The cat was laid out on top of what seemed to be an old shirt. Didn’t really look like it died naturally in that spot, more like someone had placed it there. I know there has been some sad/strange animal sacrifices in the city before, so wasn’t sure if this was related.”

lyn-hard-drive-case

Again, no preaching please (my sisyphean request…) just keep an eye out. Thanks!

From the Forum:

“Computer and hard drive stolen from P and Marion St. NW around 1:20pm today 3/10/16.

Small black, rectangular hard drive with rounded edges and cord attached. Housed in a logic brand case that is darker red.

I’m a student, with very limited money. I am most interested in the files about my many years of study that are on the hard drive and computer and would love to recover them. The physical computer is not what is most important to me. I am interested in working out an anonymous way for the external hard drive to be returned with the files on it – no questions asked. I just want my many years of work back.

Or if you have any info on the whereabouts of either items, it would be much appreciated. Attached is an image of the hard drive case.”

A reader reports:

“I wanted to highlight there was a hit and run on P St. NW in Shaw at some point during the night. Technically, it’s the intersection of P and Columbia NW, but 9th is the closest major cross street.

Hit was hard enough to completely small the left rear quarter-panel and straw glass down P st. I would imagine the car is inoperable in this state due to the damage on the left rear. Hit was also hard enough to push the vehicle into the Jeep parked in front of it.”

I took a peek inside Tim Ma’s new spot, Kyirisan (formerly Freehand). It been tough to nail down an opening date but folks on site said they should be open in April. The space looked completely built out – so I think it’s really going to happen this time! Stay tuned…
