From WMATA:

“Work on the Green and Yellow lines will continue through mid-July in the segments outlined below. Once this work is completed, Metro’s summer track work will move over to the Red Line from mid-July to August.

Metro will actively monitor ridership – which is currently extremely light – to ensure that the work does not cause unintended impacts as the region begins the initial stages of recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Why is Metro doing this work, and why now?

Currently, ridership levels are extremely low (down 90-95 percent), and buses are able to run in place of trains without traffic delays. Metro is taking advantage of these conditions to schedule around-the-clock track work in selected areas to keep critical maintenance and reliability projects on schedule. By doing this, Metro is working to offset potential delays to the project schedule as a result of Covid-19 safety protocols, supply chain delays, and workforce availability challenges.

Thanks to Ed for passing on the note from owner Carlie Steiner:

“Hey neighbors, I’m moving out of DC

I’m sure some may have heard that Pom Pom (once Himitsu) will not be reopening. We tried, but for many reasons, will not be able to open our doors again. Safety was always my number one priority, and even if we had the funds today, I still wouldn’t be okay putting my staff back to work in that capacity. (more…)

From MPD around noon:

“On Friday, June 26, 2020, two individuals were in a dispute near 14th and Shepherd when one of the subject’s produced a machete and cut the face of the other, then fled on foot. The other male suffered an injury to the face and was taken to the hospital.”

Around when Covid hit I got some emails about a shoe thief but I was overcome by events and totally forgot about it. Apparently it’s still happening – got this email on Sunday:

“Today my sister was visiting and she left her shoes out side the door and that lady stole her shoes.” (more…)
