“From the team behind Brooklyn Winery, District Winery will produce small batch artisanal wines on site. This new space will also offer a restaurant featuring refined cuisine and a full service private event venue ideal for elegant weddings, corporate gatherings, and other celebrations. Coming 2017 to The Yards.”

As H Street was getting closer to opening, every time I posted I’d get emails asking about Navy Yard’s status. Unfortunately PR was unable to give an opening date so I stopped by last weekend to take a peek. Still a few months to go for sure:

“Early 2017” may have been a bit ambitious when they announced in 2013 but a ton of progress has been made in the last year:

Stay tuned.

From New Belgium Brewing:
“Grab your tickets and start planning for the Washington Tour de Fat on July 22, 2017. Expect to experience the unexpected. We’re bringing the party with Vintage Trouble and the Tour de Fat ensemble cast of performers. Ready your eyes and ears for a mix of musicians, circus performers, vaudeville acts, magicians, comedians, and mind-blowing provocateurs. Costumes are highly encouraged (and a mindset to party is mandatory). Proceeds from the Washington Tour de Fat benefit Washington Area Bicycle Association, Black Women Bike DC, Phoenix Bikes, and Fairfax Advocates for Better Bicycling, so be sure to grab your tix today.

“When does Bullpen officially close? Every year it’s the same thing… but will it still be open this season? Asking for a friend”

Boom!!! Vol. 79 Thanks to all who emailed the big Dacha news from Washington Business Journal:
“The location has ample outdoor patio space, theoretically for Dacha to do its signature beer garden thing, but also lots of indoor space — approximately 4,000 square feet of it.
The restaurant will face the first base gate of Nationals Park, and be practically next door to another beer garden in the neighborhood, Bardo, which is occupying a vacant space on the river next door to Dock 79 until MRP moves forward with development on that site.”
And I thought the new food menu in Shaw was exciting! Via email, Dacha’s owners tell me:
“We did sign a lease and intend to open for business sometimes in 2018. We look forward to bringing unique and authentic experiences that excite customers and reflect the incredible diversity of our proud and beautiful city.”
Dacha will also join The Salt Line and All-Purpose Pizzeria in Dock 79. Boom, Boom, Boom!!!

hahaha holy crap. For the record, unsurprisingly, I’m going with awesome. Thanks to a reader for sending word of Hungry Human Hippo on Ice.
“4 teams. 400 bouncy balls. 1 epic race to catch them all – on ice.
That’s right, ice. Grab three of your best buds (or, hippo), and start a team!”

From a press release:
“Washington, D.C. chef Haidar Karoum, formerly the executive chef at D.C. favorites Proof, Estadio and Doi Moi, announces a fall 2017 opening for Chloe, his first solo restaurant project. Chloe will be a showcase of Karoum’s personal culinary journey, including his Lebanese roots and extensive travel around Western Europe and Southeast Asia, all grounded in and linked by the seasonal bounties of the Mid-Atlantic. The restaurant will be located in Arris, a newly completed building at 1331 4th St. SE in The Yards neighborhood.

Chloe, named for Karoum’s eldest niece, as well as the ancient Greek goddess of agriculture, will be open for dinner seven days a week with weekday lunch and weekend brunch service. The 103-seat interior will feature counter seating for 14 at an open kitchen with another 27 in the bar. An adjacent patio space will feature seating for 32 guests during warm weather months.
“While my cooking is heavily influenced by my Lebanese heritage and travels around the Mediterranean, it’s just as tied to seasonality,” Karoum said. “The food at Chloe will always reflect what’s regionally available from the farmers and purveyors I’ve been working with for the last two decades. I cook with instinct, and do my best to showcase the great work of these growers as simply and cleanly as possible. It would never occur to me to cook any other way.”

Not a bad weekend for it! Thanks to a reader for sending the big Bardo news.

“750 seats. Beergarden. Brewery. Next to Nats stadium. On the river. The 2 acres at Bardo feature riverside seating outdoors, a designated dog park and hundreds of bicycle parking spaces.
After 5 years at our Trinidad location on Bladensburg Rd NE, we moved to Navy Yard.”
