“D.C.-based restaurateur Antonio Matarazzo and chef Matteo Venini announce an April 2 opening of their upscale fast-casual pizza and street food concept, Stellina Pizzeria, in the growing Union Market District. The duo most recently worked together as managing partner and executive chef, respectively, of the city’s popular high-end Italian restaurants Lupo Verde, Lupo Verde Osteria and Lupo Marino. Their new venture – occupying a 2,000-square-foot, 88-seat footprint at 399 Morse Street NE – brings a contemporary spirit to the classic pizza counter, and taps into a new niche of fine-casual Italian dining. Meaning “little star” in Italian, Stellina has a logo of five circles representing the five points of a star, each signifying a different element of the dining experience: Italy, pizza, style, food and love. “Sustainable transportation advocates from around DC will gather on Sun., Mar. 31 at 12 p.m. to call attention to the need for safety measures, including a road diet, on K Street, an essential east-west arterial that crosses North Capitol Street. K Street is an essential through-route for bike commuters, including parents and school children, as it connects connects downtown and Mount Vernon Square to the bike lanes on 4th and 6th Streets NE and the Metropolitan Branch Trail. Organizers are planning a picnic, march and bike ride from the green space at 800 K St NE to 440 K St NW. (more…)

Back in January we spoke a bit about Philly Wing Fry in Union Market. Thanks to Grant for sending word on the liquor license placard posted:

“A new quick-service restaurant in the Union Market complex that will serve Philly cheese steaks. Occupancy Load of 99 with no seats. Joint use of common area with other Union Market merchants consisting of 85 indoor seats and a Summer Garden with 80 seats.”
