“Cars turning right across an oncoming bike lane have to yield to cyclists.”

“Dear PoPville,

I was traveling south in the dedicated bike lane this morning on 1st St NE crossing K St NE. I had the green light, but an oncoming vehicle turned right from 1st onto K directly into my path and I ended up on the windshield, as you can see.

I’ve had and seen other close calls at this intersection in the past. The vehicle was not registered and had no insurance. A Good Samaritan saw the whole thing and stopped to give the police her statement and name. The officer clearly stated that the driver was at fault.

Cars turning right across an oncoming bike lane have to yield to cyclists. Maybe more signage would help. I’m in the hospital now waiting to get x-rays, not a fun morning but could have been way worse.”
