Ben's
10th and H Street, NE

Thanks to Kim Coates for sending:

“former Ten 01 space is rebranding to Ben’s upstairs”

Ben’s Upstairs Website says:

“At Ben’s Upstairs you can savor delicious Southern-influenced cuisine with a hint of Caribbean flavors”

Check out their Menus here.

Ed. Note: TEN 01 opened back in Nov. 2015.

Looks like Ben’s Upstairs (which makes sense since the original U Street location has a Ben’s Next Door) was the original plan – when you look at an old photo from 2014:

Thanks to a reader for sending word about City Dogs opening another location on H Street, NE. On Facebook they say:

“Our contractor is aiming for the second week of November for the work to be complete so we can open. We’ll have full availability at that time, with the likely exception that Thanksgiving and Christmas may fill up quickly after opening.”

City Dogs also has a location at 1832 18th St, NW: “City Dogs provides a fun, cage-less environment for dog daycare and boarding. Make your pooch a happy dog!”

Thanks to a reader for sending. H Street Organic Market closed back in August of ’15. Kiddie University’s website says:

“Kiddie University has found a way that we can work together with parents and community to open a brand new childcare facility and help solve the critical shortage of quality childcare in Washington, DC, particularly Capitol Hill. The premise will accommodate approximately 60 infant, toddler, and pre-school children.

You now have the first access to reserve your child’s space for this Fall/Winter. Exclusive to waitlist families for a limited time, you have the opportunity to join our tuition buy down program and secure your child’s space in the program now, before spaces are announced to the community. No need to join any more 1 yr+ long waitlists! This program allows us to provide a high quality childcare center and program, without the need to charge outrageous tuition prices.”

2 year old littering fine

Sometimes people overuse the expression ‘smdh’ or shake my damn head and sometimes you simply must shake your damn head. Like this one for example. This happened to a friend of mine:

“We received this notice of violation from DPW in the mail yesterday alleging that our 2 year old committed a littering violation because a piece of mail with her name on it was found on the ground in the alley. I called the DPW Inspector that issued the ticket today and explained that she had inadvertently issued a ticket to a two year old and she refused to rescind the ticket.”

Ed. Note: We have discussed this practice many times in the past but this is the first time we’ve had a 2 year old cited!

streetcar

Feels like just yesterday it was ChooChoo7 but it’ll soon be six months!

From DDOT:

“The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) today announced the DC Streetcar will begin Sunday service September 18, the day after the 11th annual H Street Festival.

This announcement comes as the DC Streetcar marks its six-month milestone this weekend, Saturday, August 27. The system began passenger service February 27 with more than 8,100 people joining Mayor Muriel Bowser for the inaugural ride on the new system. The start of passenger service marked the return of streetcars to the District for the first time since 1962. (more…)
