A reader sends word last night:

“7:00 witnessed a young man fall from the stone arch at the beginning of the Capital Crescent Trail in Georgetown. There were a bunch of kids hanging out on top of the arch, and someone fell near the water, and hit a big metal pipe.”

Horrible. Hope the young man is ok.

A couple of weeks ago a reader asked about who was going into the former consignment store space at 27th and P St, NW. At that time we learned it would be a new cafe focusing on tea, coffee and pastries. Their website says:

“AFTER PEACOCK ROOM is a fine dining cafe located in Georgetown, Washington DC. We provide excellent coffees and teas with fine pastries and savory light meals.

The design is a modern interpretation of Peacock Room: Harmony of Blue and Gold, created by James McNeal Whistler in 1877.

We hope to be a shelter where you can come to escape the hectic outside world for a little while.

We are open Tuesday-Sunday, 10am-7pm.

From a press release:

“The Georgetown Business Improvement District (BID) welcomes the announcement earlier today that the D.C. Government’s Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA) will begin accepting applications for four licenses beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 10.

Georgetown is a popular commercial destination with more than 120 restaurants, cafes and bakeries in addition to over 300 stores, salons and galleries. Welcoming new, high-quality restaurants is an important part of sustaining Georgetown’s status as a world-renowned neighborhood.

The ABRA announcement covers one tavern license and three restaurant licenses. The tavern license is only available to an existing restaurant located in the Georgetown Historic District. The three new restaurant licenses stem from a license class change and from cancellations of previous or existing licenses. (more…)

We are hiring for servers and cooks.
All applicants need to have or be able to pass Servsafe.
Cooks will need to have a passion for pastry work along with savory applications.”

Their twitter page says:
