Well the home of the $1000 Golden Opulence Sundae is no more. Serendipity 3 has closed in the prime corner of Wisconsin and M St, NW formerly home to Nathan’s before Serendipity 3.

Washingtonian noted the closure last week and also adds:

“Under Armour founder Kevin Plank recently bought the building…Rumors of the sports clothing store moving into Wisconsin Avenue and M Street, Northwest, have abounded since.”

A sports clothing store in the former Nathan’s space…oh how the mighty have fallen.

Good riddance. When this place first opened it tried to drum up interest by making people wait on line outside a half-empty restaurant. Karma.

  • Boom Times

2007 called, it wants it’s gimmick back.

  • Surprised it last as long as it did. There were never a lot of people there.

With the Adidas/Reebok Crossfit location further up Wisconsin and the Nike store already on M (with their Huge Fit and Run Club nights, etc)….it seems like this section of Georgetown is becoming infused with health and fitness. Makes sense for UA, as they are making gains in the DC market in terms of popularity.

No surprise here. I tried to go there once with my mom to share one of their ridiculous ice cream sundaes but the hostess refused to seat us. She claimed that each person needed to have at least a $10 check and that, since a single desert wouldn’t cost $20, we couldn’t have a table or sit at the bar. The restaurant was 90% empty on a Saturday afternoon and it was their policy to refuse to let a little old lady eat some ice cream. Thinking about the shocked and hurt look on my mom’s face, I’m glad they failed.
