On top of what’s left of the old Chef Geoff’s Downtown building.

10th and Monroe St, NW
Took a minute but this is looking like it’s gonna be another wild transformation. Probably a bit too soon to judge the architecture but we’ll be back when it’s completed.

Before:

Thanks to Ken for sending from the Washington Business Journal:
“Martha’s Table selling longtime headquarters on 14th Street NW
The nonprofit will operate out of Anacostia and Columbia Heights beginning in 2018. Meanwhile, here’s an opportunity for a buyer in the U Street Corridor.”
For those not familiar with Martha’s Table:
“Martha’s Table works to support stronger children, stronger families, and stronger communities by increasing access to healthy food, quality education, and family supports in the District of Columbia.”

Looking north on 14th Street towards W:

It’s either a dope mural or a film projection outside the roof deck pool – either way – very cool. And damn this is a crazy transformation from Portner Place.
The future Sonnet:
“Your home is the center of your life. That’s why, at Sonnet, we’re putting you in the heart of the city, in a gorgeous environment that can be as social as it can be relaxing. Our luxury apartment and amenity spaces give you the freedom to fully embrace your version of the good life. We’re located right at 14th and U Street, where the best of Washington, DC, converges. And, where you can truly have it all.
Coming 2018”

Thanks to Peter for sending word:
“The washing machines were removed from the laundry mat at 11th and lamont over the weekend.”
The delicious smelling El Lation Bakery closed back in 2015. Anyone know if the Chinese takeout is still open? Anyone hear about the future development plans of this corner?

1752 Columbia Road, NW
Que jaw dropping developments coming to Columbia Road east of 18th with The Line Hotel, The old Payless/Avignone Freres Bakery development. And y’all said Adams Morgan was dead…

1762 Columbia Road, NW
Pros and cons, pros and cons but…from a press release:
“Urban Investment Partners (UIP) has acquired 1752 and 1762 Columbia, two mixed-use retail/office properties located in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington, DC for a total of $3.2 million. Greysteel, a national commercial real estate investment services firm, arranged the sale and represented the sellers. The new ownership plans to continue operating the properties as mixed-use retail and office space.
This transaction was arranged by Greysteel President & CEO, Ari Firoozabadi; Senior Director, W. Kyle Tangney; Director, Rawles M. Wilcox; and Investment Associate, Herbert Schwat; who are all based in the Greysteel’s Washington, D.C. office.
1752 and 1762 Columbia, both built in 1907, are four-story, four-unit mixed-use properties with off-street parking and street frontage just off one of the most well-established, visited and iconic commercial corridors in the District, Adams Morgan’s Columbia Road. (more…)

Above is the first rendering I’ve seen for the major Marie Reed Modernization Project on 18th Street. Reopening this August.

From a press release:
“Rock Creek Property Group broke ground today on the restoration of the historic Takoma Theatre. Located at 6833 4th Street, NW, the theater is in the Takoma neighborhood of DC, just two blocks from the Red Line’s Takoma Metro station, a five-minute drive to Silver Spring, a seven-minute drive to the Beltway, and a 20-minute drive to downtown Washington.
Architect John Jacob Zink designed the theater in the 1920s. Zink would go on to design more than 200 theaters around the country, including the Atlas Performing Arts Center on H Street, NE, the Uptown Theater in Cleveland Park, and the Senator Theatre in Baltimore. The Takoma Theatre was one of the first theaters in the area to feature “talkies,” when a sound system was installed in 1929. Throughout its time as an active theater, the Takoma Theatre featured a wide array of performances, including an HBO comedy special by Chris Rock in 1996. (more…)

Connecticut and Tilden St, NW UIP Reno
I feel like the person who invented this should be famous. So simple yet so effective. Genius!

Anyway, that former parking garage (and briefly part of planet pet) is looking good. Soon to be Reed Row:
“Located at the intersection of Champlain Street and Florida Avenue, Reed Row is perfectly aligned among three of D.C.’s most popular dining, entertainment, cultural and nightlife districts. Situated at the southern tip of Adams Morgan, where an abundance of restaurants and retailers await, the building is also within walking distance of the many amenities found in Dupont Circle, as well as the bustling 14th and U Street corridors.”
