“Frustrated by Washington Gas and a crazy high bill”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m reaching out because I’ve been caught in a pretty frustrating situation with Washington Gas, and I’m curious if anyone has ever dealt with something similar.

I moved into a one-bedroom apartment (~650 sqft) about a year ago. For the first 7 months, my monthly gas bill was in the $30–40 range, which matched what the previous tenant had paid (they lived here for five years and never saw a bill over $40). The tenant below me (who has a larger apartment) also tracks that range similarly. Based on my past apartments and shared housing situations, that seemed totally normal.

Then, out of nowhere, my January bill jumped to $600. After a few calls, (more…)

“lost and found post – gold bracelet lost on metro”

“Dear PoPville,

I lost chunky gold cable bracelet (see picture) that belonged to my grandmother on the green line of the metro on the evening of April 2 returning from work. It was approximately 630pm on the Green Line going towards greenbelt. I think it fell off around Hyattsville Crossing as I was exiting the car, but can’t be certain. I think the trains turn around and go back after they reach the end of the line so it could be anywhere on the Green (and potentially yellow) lines. (more…)

Speaking of the Best, Quest for the Best: French Onion Soup – Also, is it legit for a couple to share a bowl of french onion soup? any soup?

After a shockingly and inexcusably bad French onion soup at Le Diplomate – (Tasty enough broth but full of mushy onions and a handful of wet bread, topped with a thick, impenetrable slab of plasticy cheese.) I’m looking for the real, delicious French onion soup. (more…)

Coffee Predator encountered again, “This guy needs to be stopped.”

“Dear PoPville,

My girlfriend was approached by the coffee predator on Tuesday 11th March on K st, NW, and thankfully told him to go away.

This guy needs to be stopped. He’s been doing this for years and clearly has unpleasant motives- I know people have had extremely vulgar messages from him when he’s been able to get their phone number.
