Dear PoPville

“ISO Outdoor water spigot repair cost”

“Dear PoPville,

After an unsuccessful attempt to replace an outdoor spigot valve myself I am getting estimates from plumbers.

All of them insist on cutting into the internal wall in order to do it. Feels a bit like an industry-wide upsell approach to me, when the problem was a very old valve mechanism inside the wall piping leading to the spigot and dial.

Curious if others

have had similar experiences and how they have chosen to address it. The replacement parts I ordered were around $70, and the estimates thus far range from $1,000 to $2,000, not including dry wall repair.

My main motivation is to water street trees during heat waves and drought. But at that dollar level it will be a tough sell to a 4-unit HOA. Appreciate any and all feedback and guidance.”
