“Dear PoPville,

I was at Target on NY Ave and there was a man who was having a mental issue of some sort. He was yelling at “someone” about his house and that they shouldn’t “come around anymore.” At first i thought he was yelling at me, but as I walked by he didn’t change his focus and there wasn’t anyone else in the aisle. “Dear PoPville,

Yesterday (Wednesday) when I got on the metro, I found pocketbook / wallet left on a seat. I asked those on the car if it was theirs or they saw whose it was, but no one did. Inside were a few pre-paid credit cards, a some cash, and a national identity card for a South American country. Since her name was there, I looked online to try to find her, and do think I found a Facebook page and LinkedIn page for her. I sent her messages on both platforms last night, but haven’t heard back. Today, I called and emailed the DC location of the embassy her identity card is from, thinking that with the card they might be able to reach her, but haven’t heard back from them, either. (more…)

Update from the Mayor’s Office:

“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announced that DC residents who own a 2011-2021 Kia or Hyundai vehicle are eligible to receive a free steering wheel lock from an MPD District station starting this Friday, February 24. MPD is partnering with Kia and Hyundai corporations to combat motor vehicle theft after a social media challenge that encourages using a USB cable to steal these types of cars led to a substantial increase in Kia and Hyundai car thefts. “Dear PoPville,

Friday night (February 17th) my friend and I (we are both young women) were leaving the Little Grand (7th and H St. NE) a little after 11pm. We were walking home going west on H Street NE when a man standing outside of the Whole Foods yelled something at us (I didn’t hear what he said as my friend and I were in mid-conversation). The man was tall, stout, and probably in his 40s. My friend and I kept walking and we could hear him continuing to shout at us. He was saying things like, he needed to tell us something, he was the black Jesus, he knew God, and was mad we weren’t talking to him. We realized he was following us as he was shouting. He followed us to H and 4th NE when (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’m desperate! My wife and I took our 2 y/o and 2m/o out with us to Red Hen this past Saturday. Well, wouldn’t you know our current President Joe Biden walked in! Not only did he walk in, he B-lined straight for our table and my son, Miles!? Biden leaned in and spent a good 15-20 seconds acknowledging, speaking, and waving to my little boy. It was truly a moment I’ll never forget! I desperately want this photo! (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve been having a dispute with the DC unemployment office for the past month or so and it’s been an absolute nightmare. There’s no clear communication from them and when I ask for clarification, I get stuck being bounced back and forth between people and departments. At this point, I need a lawyer to help me deal with this issue. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

My New Year’s resolution was to learn tennis (I’m an absolute beginner). I’ve signed up for some lessons at Rock Creek but they are expensive ($100/1 hour lesson). Do readers recommend anyone local in the Columbia Heights area that gives private lessons? Assume others might want to know too, as we approach spring!”
