“Dear PoPville,
Our house needs a new front door! Please give us your recommendations for a reputable exterior door installer, as well as where to buy a new exterior door (besides Lowe’s or Home Depot). I’d like to hear from satisfied homeowners who’ve actually worked with a reputable local business to purchase or install a new front/exterior door to their house. TIA!”

“Dear PoPville,
Why do developers insist on painting old Victorian brick buildings that have never been painted before? This has happened at least 3 times on 1700 blocks of Q and Corcoran in the last year.”

“Dear PoPville,
I’ve been googling and googling and can’t find it: What is this cement marker, which is along the Reservation 630 trail in Rock Creek Park near Picnic Area 2 at Pierce Mill? (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Change of plans at Spring Valley Superfesh? A couple weeks ago fences went up limiting (but not restricting) access to the parking lot. Late last week the graffiti that had collected was painted over, and this weekend a “For Lease” sign went up on the building. There is also a “For Lease” sign on the space that used to house DeCarlo’s. Did the developers finally give up in light of neighborhood resistance and interest rates?”

“Dear PoPville,
It’s time to accept the new reality and maximize what has become my guest room / office / work out room. Has anyone had luck buying Murphy beds (aka wall beds)? Any cautionary tales? If purchased online, how on earth did anyone get it installed? Not something I’d want to risk DIY!”

For anyone who didn’t get the news, this currently greets visitors to Wilson Aquatic Center. Not sure the reason, but (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I’m hoping to renovate my kitchen soon and I need help. I have bids from contractors to do the actual work, but I am stymied when it comes to making choices about finishes and appliances. It seems like you can go cheap (well, less expensive) with a contractor who just installs things, or WAY expensive with a full service firm. I want to go with a contractor and hire someone to help me come up with a plan for the contractor to execute. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Where’s good to find jobs in D.C.? I know the route for federal jobs, but I haven’t job-hunted in the private/nonprofit/contract/etc. sector in a long time. Are the Washington Post’s job listings still supposed to be the best, or have they been overtaken by national websites like Indeed and LinkedIn? Are there D.C.-specific sites, listserves, etc. I should be looking at? I am WAY out of the game and would love some advice/tips.”
