“Dear PoPville,

i didn’t get to thank a very kind stranger for intervening on my behalf. i (a female) was biking by myself around 11:30 pm on friday night, headed north on 6th st in southeast. as I was approaching the intersection of 6th and penn, there was a man in the street that was shouting at cars. i stopped a good way back from the intersection so as not to interact with him as i waited for the light to turn green. unfortunately for me, he saw me and rushed towards me yelling nasty things and getting incredibly and uncomfortably close. he was blocking my bike and screaming in my face and i did not know how i was going to get away from him. “Dear PoPville,

On Sunday morning (4/23) at around 10:30am, my boyfriend was riding his blue scooter/moped at Florida NW/S St NW/Connecticut Ave NW when a car blew through the intersection, hit the scooter in the back, sending him rolling off the moped. The car didn’t slow down and accelerated away. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Last Saturday I was walking my dog with my wife and wearing my Wolverhampton (Premier League soccer) jersey. I was stopped on Florida Ave across from the Whole Foods by a nice guy who was surprised to see another fan of our middling but lovable team. I told him the score of the Brentford match that morning. “Dear PoPville,

We’ve had solar panels on our roof for several years. In months when we generated more electricity than we used, our bills always had a negative dollar amount and the credit balance could be used to cover the monthly base charges. This meant we usually only had a bill around Dec/Jan/Feb, and $0 bills the rest of the year.

The last few months however I’ve noticed a change. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I was hoping the community could populate a list of what — post COVID — businesses that are truly, really open 24 hours (and not just eateries like Bob & Edith’s).

Kramer’s in Dupont used to be 24 hours, as did a few Walmarts in the region. Would love to get a list started of where we can go late night for food and shopping.”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m wondering if you might be inclined to revisit this conversation.

Specifically, I think my question is: Have you (“you” meaning “reader”) given up your seat on metro recently?

I ask primarily because I am currently 34 weeks pregnant + a regular metro rider (my office requires two in-person days / week so I ride metro at least four times / week). Personally, I’ve had the same experience your 2016 reader had: I’ve been offered a seat on metro exactly twice during my pregnancy, both times by someone I perceived to be a young woman. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve been asked to be a godfather by our closest friends. My wife and I, while raised Catholic, weren’t married in the church and haven’t practiced in quite some time.

My future goddaughter’s parish needs a signed/sealed ”letter of eligibility” from my pastor attesting that I’m qualified to serve as a godparent.

Anyone know any back-alley priests in the DC area?”
