14th and U Street, NW

Thanks to Abram for passing on the scuttlebutt:

“Just got word from one of the employees that the Dunkin’ Donuts at 14th and U street NW will also close on December 29th! First Columbia Heights, now U street! It’s a 14th street Donut massacre! Oh well, I guess another one bites the dust.”

Dunkin Donuts opened at 14th and U Street back in October 2011. STAY TUNED.

Thanks to Beth for sending:

“Saw this around the corner from Hana Japanese Market, on 17th Street. Looks like a Japanese pottery store will move in soon. Wonder if they’ll collaborate with Hana for any events!”

Tokiya’s website says:

“Born and raised in Toki, Gifu, the founder “tomo” grew up being surrounded by the authentic Minoyaki pottery, which has a rich history and tradition dating back to the 7th century. It flourished during the Momoyama-Period (16th century) supported by the most influential tea master Sen-no Rikyu and under the patronage of Shogun Nobunaga. (more…)

417 East Capitol Street, SE

Well no way around it, this sucks. Last night The Hill is Home reported: “According to their social media manager, the closure is the owners’ personal decision and the Fredericksburg, Virginia, store will still be open.”

Riverby’s website says:

“Riverby Books DC will be closing. Please come and buy some handfuls (or armfuls) of books and use your store credit!

We are NO LONGER BUYING BOOKS.”

Some may recall that back in 2015 Riverby Books had closed after their owner, Mr. Cymrot, was hit by truck and killed. Fortunately they were able to reopen later that year. This is a serious bummer.

31st and M Street, NW

Thanks to Rachel for sending. Patagonia is currently located at 1048 Wisconsin Ave, NW:

“Housed in an old factory that once produced industrial-size scales, our store carries a nice assortment of quality Patagonia clothing and gear for outdoor sports, travel and everyday living. A center for environmental activism, we hold regular events, provide meeting space for nonprofits and have an energized staff that advocates for conservation on Capitol Hill and volunteers with groups like the Anacostia Watershed Society. Drop in to meet them and learn more about our remarkable company.”

Anyone know what’s going to happen to that cool location?

847 Upshur Street, NW prior to opening courtesy Lulabelle’s

From the owners of Each Peach Market and Pear Plum Cafe:

“We are announcing that as of December 24th, 2018, Each Peach will no longer be the operators of Lulabelle’s Sweet Shop, choosing instead to focus on our other businesses in Mt. Pleasant. For the last year, Lulabelle’s has functioned as a collaboration between Emily Friedberg and Jeanlouise Conaway of Each Peach Market and Pear Plum Cafe in Mt. Pleasant and Julie Wineinger, owner of Willow Fashion. Each Peach was running the coffee and ice cream service, as well as all kitchen operations. “We are sad to leave Upshur Street and have loved getting to know a new neighborhood but ultimately, the logistics of having a kitchen offsite from our primary business location has proved to be difficult to manage.”

Lulabelle’s will close on Dec 24th for the Christmas Holiday and to make some adjustments to the space, and will reopen tentatively on January 8th, 2019. (more…)
