Thanks to CP for passing on their INDIEGOGO campaign:

138 U Street, NE via Yang Market

“Yang Market has been the cornerstone of Eckington for over 70 years. Located at the corner of Summit & U Streets NE, the store opened in the 1940s as one of many District Grocery Stores (DGS) operating throughout the region. Yang Market has stood witness to the evolution of our neighborhood and city ever since.

Yang Market’s closing last December was a blow to the neighborhood because it was more than a convenience store, but an integral part of Eckington’s history. (more…)

Ed. Note: Shop Made In DC just opened a Georgetown location over the weekend and they also have a location at the Wharf in SW Waterfront. They also run the DC History store in the Carnegie Library (colocated with the new Apple store.)

From Shop Made in DC:

“As you know, the lease for our beloved Dupont space is ending on August 31. We are sad to have to leave, but the building is under new ownership and will be in renovation mode for the next year. As much as we have loved our time we are also ready for new adventures.

Up until last week we thought we were moving North of Dupont Circle. On Friday morning, after 2 months of negotiations and planning (on the day we were set to sign) we lost the lease to our new Dupont location.

We are seeking a new space to move our Dupont home. (more…)

716 Monroe Street, NE

From The Bike Rack’s Owner Chuck Harney:

“The Bike Rack and Fox Loves Taco in Brookland are both closed as of now. It is unfortunate and my hope was to be there for a very long time. However, when we first contacted Bozzuto about the space, we were told that there would be an anchor grocery store across the street and the metro busses would be dropping people at the top of the Arts Walk, basically at our front door. It is 5 years later and none of those promises have been fulfilled. (more…)
