Back in Sept. 2013 we first learned of Love ‘n Faith Cafe coming to the Capitol View building at 14th and Chapin St, NW (just north of Florida Ave.) Look out for an early May opening:

Looking south toward Florida Ave and Streets Market:

We first heard about the “Fast Casual Spanish Restaurant”, 100 Montaditos, last August. Because I am impatient I was starting to wonder if they were still coming – happy to see the just posted a liquor license placard out front which sounds pretty awesome:
“This is a new Retail Class “D” Restaurant. 100 Montaditos an exciting environment, tasting Spain’s famed Mahou beer or other typical thirst-quenchers, including red and white wines, claras (beer with lemon-lime soda) sangria (wine punch made with chopped fruit) and tintos de verano (red wine blended with lemon-lime soda).
The restaurant specializes in montaditos, crunchy Spanish rolls baked to order and jam-packed with traditional ingredients as Serrano ham, Spanish tortilla, chorizo sausage and Manchego cheese.
The number of seats is 74 and total load 74.”
Hours are listed as Sunday through Thursday 11 am -10 pm, Friday and Saturday 11 am – 12 am.
Updates as they get closer to opening.

Incidentally, Blue Jacket’s front patio is looking good too:

From an email:
“About the new shop:
– 1st store to offer patio seating.
– Signature black and white design elements are familiar to all the &pizza locations, but the new style of imagery brings out the diversity and amity the neighborhood prides itself in.
– The new large scale images evoke emotion and help to activate the large walls and high ceiling the space had to offer.
– Bathrooms with mirrored tile and characters from emerging local artist Kelly Towles.
– A large ampersand is found on the exterior of the store, made out of cut steel, exposing the foundational brick seen throughout the newly developed building.
Hours:
10a – 11p Sun – Thurs
10a – 12a Fri – Sat”

1320 H Street, NE
Ed. Note: About those cheesesteaks – I’m told “will be coming to ALL Taylor Gourmet locations in a few months. Shooting for August!”
Pizza Parts & Service is located in the former Taylor Charles Steak & Ice space and:
“The neighborhood pizza garage opens today –
Hours:
11a – 10p Sunday – Thursday
11a – 330a Friday & Saturday
(delivery will launch in about 2 weeks)”
Check out the menu:

District Taco’s third DC location is now open. This is former Cosi space which closed back in Oct. 2012 at the corner of 20th and M St, NW.
You can see District Taco’s menu here. A peek inside the new spot:

Thanks to @EricTollar for tweeting us the promising plans:
“400 h street NE property acquired. (Formally TruOrleans) Looking to open in early-mid June. Concept announcement soon! I can tell you it’s being beautifully renovated, American fare with Mediterranean influence, craft cocktails and local craft beer”
Updates as more info becomes available.
TruOrleans closed back in Sept. 2013.

You can read a review of the then recently opened TruOrleans here.
Remember when it looked like this back in 2010:

650 H Street, NE
The sign on the window says Inspire BBQ will be relocating but their website does not reveal the new location. Updates when the new location is announced.
You can see their menu here:

Finally signage has gone up confirming the location for Shake Shack coming to Union Station. Back in September of 2013 we first learned a Shake Shack would be coming to Union Station. When the second Starbucks moved back in January, I assumed it was to make space for Shake Shack. However at that time rumors continued to persist that a Captiol City Brewery brewery would be taking over the former America restaurant space which closed in Oct. 2011. Happy to finally put those rumors to rest.
And to those who don’t like Shake Shack – we get it, we get it – you don’t like Shake Shack. Ok. Noted.
For those of us who do like Shack Shake, stay tuned for updates as they get closer to opening. Oh yeah, they’ve also applied for a liquor license that says:
“Restaurant serving American cuisine, specializing in burgers and shakes with a seating capacity of 166, total occupancy load of 220 and Summer Garden with 52 seats.”
Hours are listed as Sunday through Thursday 11am – 11 pm and Friday & Saturday 11 am – 12 am.
