The liquor license placard for Dio says:

“A wine bar that will serve food and alcoholic beverages. Total Occupancy Load of 24 seats.”

Their facebook page says:

“Dio is a natural wine bar with light fare and a hip atmosphere.”

Washington City Paper reported:

“Khoury-Diaz is starting small, literally. Her bar named after Dionysus—the god of wine—is about 900 square feet and will focus on natural wine. The white-hot style of winemaking calls for minimal intervention both out in the field growing the grapes and once the grape juice is being made into wine.”

Updates as they get closer to opening.

pheast

Thanks to Andy for sending the update. Back in December we learned Hen Quarter would be taking over the former Austin Grill space.

The Pheast website says:

“Pheast Food Group was created by foodies, for foodies, with the mission to create an incubator dedicated to farm fresh, sustainable and edgy food concepts – be it fast casual, quick service, or full service – and to have a lot of fun doing it!

Our first new concept out from the team led by Chef Fred Raynaud, is Hen Quarter – an ode to the best of Southern fare and classic cocktails. Dishes full of flavors that can only come from the best in farm to table design. The first two locations in Old Town, Alexandria, Va and downtown Silver Spring, MD will be complete in summer and fall 2016. (more…)

habanero
3710 14th Street, NW

Ben reports:

“New sign (and name reversal?) to complement their newly painted facade. I also noticed they are redoing their ceilings with wood paneling and might be prepping for a mural on the incoming wall.

Think they are trying to rival Mezcalero? Fortunately despite the upgrades Habanero’s tacos are still amazing…”

Thanks to Jake for also sending a shot of the new sign – note the “99% Mexican”:

aroz
901 Massachusetts Avenue NW

From a press release:

“Washington, D.C. chef and restaurateur Mike Isabella will open Arroz in the Marriott Marquis Washington, D.C on March 27 for dinner; lunch and weekend brunch service will begin later this spring. Arroz, Spanish for rice, is Isabella’s contemporary take on the cuisines of Southern Spain and Morocco.

Isabella welcomes executive chef Michael Rafidi to helm the kitchen and collaborate on the menu. Originally from the area, Rafidi returns to Washington, D.C. from Mina Group in San Francisco, by way of Noma in Copehagen and Talula’s Garden in Philadelphia. Most recently Rafidi served as executive chef at Michael Mina’s RN74.

“Spain has always been one of my favorite countries to explore and dine around – the deep variety and strong regional identity of Spanish cuisine is unlike anything else,” Isabella said. “I’ve recently had the chance to travel around Morocco as well, and was fascinated by how much these areas influence each other’s art, architecture and food. I think Arroz captures that intersection, and Michael Rafidi is the right chef to collaborate on this concept. I’m excited to share our interpretation of these food cultures with D.C.”

jinya
1336 14th Street, NW

Finally some progress at the Jinya (which we first heard about in Dec. ’15) coming to the former Ghana Cafe space on 14th Street just south of Rhode Island.

The new placard also says: ‘Applicant requests a Summer Garden Endorsement.”

Jinya’s website says:

“JINYA Ramen Bar serves “Tonkotsu Ramen”, rich and strong smelling noodle. Tonkotsu uses pork broth which is pumped up with industrial quantities of dashi and dried fish, a broth that seemed to be trying to establish the record for the most umami per milligram.

Simply put, tasting is believing. Only a handful Californian residents and lucky tourists could enjoy the fantastic taste of JINYA Ramen. Not anymore. With as low as $350K initial investment, you can own and run “JINYA, Ramen Bar” in your location.”

Check out some of their menus here.  Stay tuned.
