Mass Courts (300 Massachusetts Ave)

“Dear PoPville,

I think there was a shooting earlier this evening at Mass Courts (300 Massachusetts Ave). Police were everywhere and no one really knows what happened. Was it intentional or did they follow someone into the apt building and it was a robbery gone wrong?”

This morning a reader sends this crazy report from the Washington Post:

“A police report says that the victim encountered two men outside an apartment on the 14th floor. One of the men said, “Give me your wallet and keys,” according to the report.

The victim told police he fought with both men and that one took out a handgun and shot him in the left wrist.

“Dear PoPville,

Writing to share a couple pictures of someone who stole my bike seat on Saturday morning so readers can keep an eye out.

He didn’t try to take the bike but cut my thick cable lock and took my saddle + seat post around 4:30 AM on Saturday at 6th & Florida NW. Luckily we caught the whole thing on video. Here are a couple of screenshots of him, undeterred by the frigid weather or the cars that stop at the red light a few feet behind him when he nonchalantly cuts the lock, pulls the seat out and puts it in his backpack. He rode away in the dark, surely rushing the harvested organ to a dying bike in need of a saddle transplant. That’s what I like to think anyway.

Pics of Robin Hood attached.”

Another reader sends this live action from Capitol Hill:

“I know 2016 has been a bad year, but stealing a Christmas wreath off the front door? That’s low.”

“Dear PoPville,

Woke up around 2:20 this morning to the sweet lullaby of a multiple gun drive-by shooting near 13th and L NW. Definitely multiple weapons, about two handfuls of bullets. I can’t see from my vantage point if there’s anyone down.

The intersection now features a police presence and officers looking for casings. On the bright side, props to the PD for responding so quickly to my call. (911 took about 3 minutes to pick up, though.)

MPD reported:

“The Third District is currently investigating a shooting in the 1100 block of 13th Street NW. Anyone with information is asked to call 202-727-9099.”

Package theft

“Dear PoPville,

Here is yet another in the string of package thieves caught on tape…we live on Delafield between Arkansas and Georgia. This gentleman just laid down on our porch and took two Amazon packages (as well as Shutterfly Christmas cards) that were delivered about an hour prior. The police believe he has been following UPS trucks and then circling back shortly after delivery to steal the packages–which is exactly what happened to us.”
