ALERT DC and MPD reported around 11:30pm Monday:

“Shooting in the 2500 block of Rhode Island Avenue, NE. No Lookout.
DO NOT TAKE ACTION CALL 911″

WTOP reported:

“A shooting that occurred Monday evening in Northeast D.C. has left a man dead.

D.C. police said a gunfire locator detected more than 30 shots were fired, and is unclear how many of those rounds struck the victim.”

The Washington Post reported:

“For weeks, all Clarence Venable could talk about was his new job. After his own brushes with the law, the 40-year-old was elated to begin training last month to be a violence interrupter, tasked with reducing the rising level of homicides in Southeast Washington.

Before he could interrupt that violence, however, it overtook him instead.”

From MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Friday, November 22, 2019, in the 3200 block of Dubois Place, Southeast.

At approximately 2:01 pm, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as 40 year-old Clarence Venable, of Southeast, DC.”

“Over the course of the last week, several robberies have occurred on the Metropolitan Branch Trail. As a result of diligent investigative work, conducted by the Fifth District Detective’s Unit, several suspects were developed.

On Wednesday, November 20, 2019, members of the Fifth District’s Crime Suppression Team conducted operations in the area of the Metropolitan Branch Trail, in an effort to locate and apprehend the suspects involved in this string of recent robberies along the trail. (more…)

“At approximately 2126 hours (Wednesday) V-1 reports being assaulted and robbed by a group of juveniles who shot her several times with a BB gun as well as punching her. The suspects robbed V-1 of her purse and car keys and then fled in an unknown direction. V-1 sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The case is actively being investigated by the Fifth District Detectives office. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the MPD at 202-727-9099.

“At approximately 2:00 PM 5th District officers heard sounds of gunshots at the intersection of Brentwood and Saratoga Avenue NE. Officers were on scene quickly and canvassed the area. 5th District Patrol officers were able to determine that a victim had been shot in the lower part of the leg with non-life threatening injuries. This case will be investigated by the 5th District Detectives Office. If anyone has information on the shooting please call the 5th District Detectives Office on 2026980660 or 2027279099.”

“Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a traffic fatality involving a single vehicle and a pedestrian that occurred on Friday, November 15, 2019, in the Unit block of H Street, Northeast.

At approximately 8:23 pm, a green in color 2015 Ford Mustang was traveling westbound in the Unit block of H Street, Northeast in the far left lane of travel. The pedestrian was walking from north to south, across the westbound lanes of travel in the middle of the block, outside of a marked cross walk when he was struck by the vehicle listed above. Update from a reader on scene:

“We were there. The gala was going on at the Portrait Gallery – people were arriving on the red carpet.

Ed. Note: I asked ‘You heard the gunfire? How many shots were there?’

Just one, and saw people running down F From the arena. Police were there shortly after and there were three cars in front of the Gallery Place elevators when we left the sidewalk in front of Zaytinya around 7. Michelle Obama, Hilary Clinton, and many others were expected at NPG that night. The gunfire was right after Jeff Bezos walked inside.

I just checked the details – I took a photo of Bezos arriving at 5:10. It was right after that.

“This evening around 5:15 PM, First District officers heard the sound of a gunshot near 7th St NW and G St NW. Many officers immediately responded and found evidence of gunfire but, fortunately, no evidence that anyone had been struck. (more…)
