Looks like plans for a strip club, then cigar lounge have now become plans for The Liberator. A new liquor license placard posted out front says:
“Multi-level restaurant and bar featuring a fusion of modern Irish and European cuisines with a seating capacity for 370 patrons. Total Occupancy Load of 470. Requesting an Entertainment Endorsement.”

3115 14th Street, NW
“Dear PoPville,
The Heights used to have a great happy hour – 3-7 every day with rail drinks $4.00. But they just raised the happy hour prices to $6.00! Worse than that, I was told it was still actually a good deal because non-happy-hour rail drinks are now $9.00! Seriously? Guess it’s time to abandon my favorite pub and walk a few blocks to one of the many other bars in the neighborhood.”

From a press release:
“A new culinary-focused cocktail bar and neighborhood gathering place, Radiator (www.radiatordc.com), will open off of the 14th Street corridor in Spring 2016, adjacent to the new Mason & Rook Hotel at 1430 Rhode Island Ave NW. A classic cocktail bar, Radiator’s drinks selection will focus on a carefully curated range of whiskeys and off-the-beaten path spirits, lovingly crafted classics, and a discerning selection of local beers and wines. The kitchen, led by Chef Jonathan Dearden, formerly of Ardeo + Bardeo, will complement the beverage program with soulful, rustic dishes that span snacks, sharable plates and large-format signature items. Classic bar service will be a Radiator calling card, with the bar trading modernist smoke and mirrors for perfectly executed classics and barkeeps who know your drink after your first visit. (more…)

You gotta kick up it up a notch when one of the best bars in the city plans on moving in next door. And kick it up a notch Ivy & Coney has – not just with the new roof deck but also a new menu and now an even better front door – I’m partial to “Blossom & Throne”. Well done I & C – well done!

501 Florida Avenue, NW
From a press release:
“Winter may just have begun, but The Royal is transforming LeDroit Park into a tropical oasis for the latest edition of its monthly industry night series, on Monday, January 11 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. One special night devoted to South American Tiki cocktails. Royal Knights: “Kon Tiki” edition will feature the exotic creations of guest bartender Lukas B. Smith ranging from Bolivian brandy-topped Scorpion Bowls, Pisco-filled fruits and shaved ice cocktails, plus island flicks on the projector and other tropical surprises.
Inspired by Kon Tiki, the famous 1947 expedition which took Norwegian explorer and writer Thor Heyerdahl from South America to the Polynesian islands, The Royal will showcase lesser-known South American spirits in classic and original Polynesian-themed cocktails. Spirits such as Rujero Singani, a Bolivian brandy, Avua and Boca Loca cachacas, El Dorado and Ministry of Rum Collection rums imported from Guyana and more will be highlighted in cocktails throughout the evening.
