Boom!!! Vol. 79 Thanks to all who emailed the big Dacha news from Washington Business Journal:

“The location has ample outdoor patio space, theoretically for Dacha to do its signature beer garden thing, but also lots of indoor space — approximately 4,000 square feet of it.

The restaurant will face the first base gate of Nationals Park, and be practically next door to another beer garden in the neighborhood, Bardo, which is occupying a vacant space on the river next door to Dock 79 until MRP moves forward with development on that site.”

And I thought the new food menu in Shaw was exciting! Via email, Dacha’s owners tell me:

“We did sign a lease and intend to open for business sometimes in 2018. We look forward to bringing unique and authentic experiences that excite customers and reflect the incredible diversity of our proud and beautiful city.”

Dacha will also join The Salt Line and All-Purpose Pizzeria in Dock 79.  Boom, Boom, Boom!!!

This is just crazy. Back in February we broke the news that Mackey’s was moving to Metro Center. I was surprised that not that many people really cared, to be honest. But I know there are a lot of Laughing Man Tavern fans, particularly soccer fans. Oh well. BarredinDC reports:

“A person who answered the phone at Laughing Man confirmed that Mackey’s indeed was moving there.”

high dive

Update from a High Dive event (posted in the comments):

“The High Dive is closing up, and this is the last weekend! [February 18 – February 19] Come say bye to the bar and to Liz!

It’ll be cash only, open bar, don’t have anything to do the next day!”

A reader reports:

“I walked by it on Friday Night around 10PM and it was closed. All Bars should be open on a Friday night. I think it’s done. I went in there like a month ago and it was dead on a Saturday night.”

Another reader hears they are: “looking to sell the place.”

The High Dive opened in the former Pharmacy Bar, RIP, space back in March 2015.

Their Facebook hasn’t been updates since January 13th. Their website says:

“It’s like your favorite house party with better paint and a clean bathroom. Cheap drinks, cheap food, cheap shots from the bartender. Street Fighter 2 (champion edition!), board games, bills-only jukebox (no touch tunes), & chalk in the bathroom.

Selling food through last call, every night.

SUN-THURS: 5PM – 2AM
FRI & SAT: 5PM – 3AM”

I emailed the bar manager a few days ago but still haven’t heard back yet. Updates if/when more is known.

A reader reports:

“Looks like they are clearing out the Argonaut after months of nothing. pics taken on 3/1.”

Argonaut abruptly closed back in July. Still waiting to see who takes over the space. Stay tuned.

Another reader sends an updated photo earlier this morning:

“Clean up crews have been working at the Argonaut space on H st this week. Any updates on what’s become of this space?”

“I walk by it a couple of times a week and the last few times I have done so at 6 pm, they appear to be closed. There have been no social media posts by them since late January. Did this place finally bite the dust?”

BUCKEYE-BEAR-The-Ballroom

Buckeye + Bear opened back in June 2016 in the former Huxley nightclub space. Their Facebook page, last updated January 17th, says:

From Ivy & Coney:

“Happy Paczki Day! For the third year in a row Ivy and Coney will be celebrating Fat Tuesday Midwest style, with free Paczki and Pierogi for those who prefer giant doughnuts and potato filled dumplings to King Cakes and beads. Rather than go all the way to Hamtramck or Chicago we spent all night rolling up hundreds of pierogi and grabbed a few dozen Paczki from Woodmoor Pastry shop (more than worth the drive to Silver Spring). Oh, and beer, we have plenty of that too.

Party starts at 4pm.”

From the files of I hadn’t even realized they had closed 2020 Bar & Lounge edition, next up Phoenix Restaurant Lounge. Phoenix’s liquor license placard says:

“A Restaurant serving authentic American food. Entertainment Endorsement to offer Live Entertainment, Dancing, and Cover Charge. Total Occupancy Load of 198 seats.”

RIP Meskerem.
