“DC Health announced that beginning Tuesday, February 28, 2023 they will suspend the COVID-19 Test Yourself DC self-service kiosk program as well as rapid test distribution at libraries and senior centers. These changes are in line with similar actions at the federal level as a result of falling COVID-19 case counts and the increased availability of testing and vaccine opportunities through medical offices, pharmacies and community health centers.

DC Health continues to emphasize that the most important thing residents can do to protect themselves and their families from COVID-19 is to be up to date with their vaccinations and boosters. Update from the Mayor’s Office:

“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announced that DC residents who own a 2011-2021 Kia or Hyundai vehicle are eligible to receive a free steering wheel lock from an MPD District station starting this Friday, February 24. MPD is partnering with Kia and Hyundai corporations to combat motor vehicle theft after a social media challenge that encourages using a USB cable to steal these types of cars led to a substantial increase in Kia and Hyundai car thefts. Friday night (February 17th) my friend and I (we are both young women) were leaving the Little Grand (7th and H St. NE) a little after 11pm. We were walking home going west on H Street NE when a man standing outside of the Whole Foods yelled something at us (I didn’t hear what he said as my friend and I were in mid-conversation). The man was tall, stout, and probably in his 40s. My friend and I kept walking and we could hear him continuing to shout at us. He was saying things like, he needed to tell us something, he was the black Jesus, he knew God, and was mad we weren’t talking to him. We realized he was following us as he was shouting. From DC Water:

“The water networks serving DC Water, along with Arlington County and northeastern Fairfax County, will undergo annual cleaning starting Monday. Water service continues uninterrupted during the process, which runs from February 20 to May 15 this year. During that time, drinking water may smell or taste slightly different.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Washington Aqueduct, water supplier to these regions, performs the temporary disinfectant switch from chloramine to chlorine. (more…)
