I got a scam call last week from someone claiming to be a MPD officer. He claimed I had failed to appear for jury duty, and that legal action would be taken against me if I wasn’t able to prove that I’d never received the summons letter, which he claimed had been signed by me (I never got such a letter).
He seemed really legit and used real-sounding jargon. He had info about me, such as my age and address. (more…)

My son and I were at the Stanton Park playground Saturday a little before noon. As always on the weekend, there were probably 5-6 families enjoying the sun and getting out of the house while following proper mask/distancing protocols. The SW corner of 12th and P NW is falling into the storm drain, and it just seems like a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt. I submitted this photo to 311 and got the response “looks fine” from whoever reviewed the submission. This photo is the original one I sent in… I walked past it again today and it’s gotten worse. Matt writes: “Just a heads up from the Shaw area. Just found video of this from boxing day while we’re asleep. We notified the police but nothing they could do. Thankfully neighbors dog scared them away. Other neighbors have had things stolen from yards like bikes in the past months so this seems to be becoming a more common thing. Will be letting our dog play in the yard more often now.”

“I was robbed and assaulted at knifepoint in the Petworth/Georgia Ave metro station around 6:30pm [Thursday.] Two guys were waiting outside the train when I got off, one followed me to the escalator and put a knife to my side and asked for my phone. I said no, we fought, the other guy joined when it wasn’t a quick transaction. The first guy tried to stab me in the stomach but he had a utility swiss army knife and it wasn’t sharp. Eventually they got the phone after a few punches to the head, another guy who saw it happening got the knife and gave it to the station manager who called transit police. (more…)
