Here’s a new one. I’m used to having my card number skimmed at various places but this situation takes the cake. I’ve been waiting for a new credit card to arrive in the mail but never got it. Yesterday I received a notification that a purchase at the Sunoco two blocks from me
at 15 and U was declined because the card had not yet been activated. When I called the bank, they confirmed that the chip had been used and someone was in possession of my card. Obviously they cancelled it.
I’m not one to pile onto the Postal Service but how the hell does anybody swipe mail before it even gets delivered? Given that the fraud occurred right down the street from me, I suspect that someone stole mail from the carrier or the carrier decided to help themselves. I’ve reported the incident but I have exactly zero expectations that anything will come of it.
