Yesterday we reported that “The Mellow Mushroom in Adams Morgan has been closed for at least 5 days.” In certain circles panic quickly followed. Others said, this is simply the Mellow Mushroom way. And it appears the later was correct.
Angela writes: “Got a friend who works for their company… he said it’s gonna open back up.”
And now they’ve added signage to their door. Another reader hears they may even reopen this afternoon. Fingers crossed!

Back in May we learned that DC Stone Pizza would be opening in the Mediterranean Spot space which first opened up at 15th and U St, NW back in August 2012. Before Mediterranean Spot the space was home to Love Cafe. Anyone already sample a slice at DC Stone Pizza?

Been getting a bunch of worried messages about Mellow Mushroom in Adams Morgan:
“The Mellow Mushroom in Adams Morgan has been closed for at least 5 days. Something must be up!? Thanks for any info you can provide about one of the neighborhood’s best bars.”
“do you know anything about the closure of Mellow Mushroom on 18th? There was no sign on the door but it was mysteriously closed when I went yesterday”
Readers have passed on a number of rumors including a broken water heater but apparently there aren’t any notes or notices of violations on any of the doors or windows. (more…)

“Today, Matchbox announces a July 3 opening for its newest location, a 4,360-square-foot space at 750 E Street NW in Washington, D.C. The homegrown chain recently closed its original Chinatown restaurant at 713 H Street NW to welcome the Penn Quarter arrival, which is located just three blocks away and boasts a 28-seat sidewalk patio in addition to 125 seats indoors. Fueled by its investment funding from Thompson Hospitality, Matchbox will continue brand-wide growth in the region with stores slated to open in Bethesda, Md. later this summer and in Reston, Va. in early 2020. Thanks to all who messaged us the news from the Washington Business Journal that a Matchbox would be taking over the former Grilled Oyster Co. space.
