From Charlie Palmer Steak DC:

“After 22 incredible years, we’re bidding a fond farewell to 101 Constitution Avenue. On November 29, 2024, Charlie Palmer Steak DC will serve its final prime steaks, chops, and celebratory moments. Stop by for one last lunch, dinner, or a toast at the bar with Lamar. Thank you, Washington, DC, for being part of our story.” (more…)

Friends, Washingtontonians, countrymen, lend me your ears – irony is not dead.

I come to bury Taffer’s, not to praise it.
The evil that reality tv proclaimed experts do lives after them;
The good is oft interred with their draft menus;
So let it be with Taffer’s. The noble Commentariat
Hath told you Taffer’s was ambitious…

But here I am to speak what I do know.
You all did mock them once, not without cause:
What cause withholds you then, to mourn for him?
O judgment! thou art fled to nearby fast casual cantinas
My heart is in the coffin there at this prime retail/restaurant space,
And I must pause till someone new takes it over.

Thanks to MML for sending to us yesterday, now that I’ve had time to digest the news, without further ado:

“Learned yesterday that Taffer’s is closing. We had reservations for after the Caps game Saturday and received this email yesterday.” (more…)

3534 Georgia Ave, NW

A. asks: “is Mom N Pops Antiques in Park View closing? There’s new “For Sale” window wraps up saying ground floor business and residential. It’s currently one floor, so it would be awful to see this place go & another condo building go in.”

Thanks to J. for sharing photos: “The inside looked normal. Everything still in there. And that sign on the door must be recent.”

This is almost too painful a sight to bear. Mom n Pop Antiques is 38 years old!! (more…)

Ed. Note: Slash Run opened with great fanfare back on July 16, 2015. In 2018 it was sold to manager Christine Lilyea. Prior to Slash Run this space was home to J ‘n G Tavern and of course El Limeno and briefly La Joya Steakhouse. Updates when we learn what becomes of the space.

Sad words from Haad Thai (thanks to A. for passing on):

Harry Thomas Way and Eckington Place NE

Ed. Note: Qualia announced they would not be reopening their Petworth location, now home to Snappy’s, back in 2023.

From an email:

“After nearly eight years of serving the Eckington neighborhood, we have reached the end of our lease term. Despite the ongoing support of our landlords through the difficulties of the past five years, operating a brick-and-mortar business in DC is an increasingly costly proposition. It has always been our sincerest hope to be an asset to the community and positive force in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, intentions alone are not sufficient to finance a business.

And so, our last day of serving the public will be Monday, November 25. (more…)
