From La Jambe:

“We have made the very difficult decision to put on pause our Shaw location and do like lots of other restaurants, hibernating for a few months.

We have made it this far thanks to your continuous support but unfortunately between the higher risk of infection, the colder weather, and new restrictions in place, it is becoming almost impossible for us to stay open at this point.

We will keep our Shaw location open until Sunday, December 20th, so you can stop by, say goodbye and support our lovely team. (more…)

Solly’s, one of the very, very best bars in D.C. posts this morning:

“Soooo. Solly’s will close at 10pm 12/24 until March. We appreciate everyone’s support and look forward to returning. Please stop in for a laugh and a Powers before then. We will be posting ways to help support our staff during the shutdown so stay tuned.”

Ed. Note: I will update this post with ways to support the staff too.

Park Road and Mt. Pleasant St, NW

Oh no, we’ve been loving these every year since at least 2008. Thanks to all who messaged that they haven’t gone up this year (they are usually up by now.) Maybe they are concerned with accessing people’s units due to the virus? Fingers crossed they are able to figure out a way to put them up before the New Year!!

“Dear PoPville,

These people rented an Airbnb next to my building and threw a birthday party with at least a dozen people not social distancing. Super loud.

But that’s not all. They actually lit a damn firepit on a wooden balcony and pushed it into the corner to allow more people outside…moving the flames directly against the wooden bannisters and under the wooden stairs!!!

People on surrounding balconies were telling them to put it out and a drunk girl just kept yelling (without a mask on) “ok Karen! Ok Karen! Ok Karen! Have a good night Karen!”

The fire dept came and made them put it out…and the same girl started yelling AT THE FIREMEN, “you’re ruining my birthday!! Thanks for ruining my birthday!!” She then proceeded to scream obscenities at random balconies. (more…)

From the Mayor’s Office:

“Mayor Muriel Bowser recognized The First Five — the first five members of DC’s Bravest who will take the coronavirus vaccine this week. As frontline health care providers, the District of Columbia’s COVID-19 Vaccination Plan designates members of the DC Fire and EMS Department (FEMS) among the first to receive the vaccine in Washington, DC. Within days, DC’s Bravest will be among the first to receive the long-awaited vaccine.

“Today, we have hope. After a long and tragic nine months, help is finally on the way. The First Five are sending a strong message about the importance of this vaccine to protect them, their families and loved ones, their patients and coworkers, and our entire city,” said Mayor Bowser. “Our frontline health care workers and emergency responders have led our community through this pandemic with courage and compassion, and now we are proud to deliver this vaccine to them. Finally, we can work together to end this pandemic. While we must stay vigilant during this nationwide surge in cases, the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter.”

DC Health has arranged for Kaiser Permanente to administer the vaccine to FEMS members beginning this week. Kaiser is expected to receive their initial doses of the vaccine on Wednesday, December 16, and FEMS members will receive the vaccine at the Kaiser site.

Acting Fire and EMS Chief John Donnelly and Dr. Robert Holman, the Department’s Medical Director, will join Lieutenants Joseph Papariello and Keishea Jackson and Firefighter/EMT Julio Quinteros in being the first members to receive the vaccine. (more…)

From a press release:

“The pandemic has forced restaurants around the world to get creative, offer customers the food and drink they’re really craving, and keep their communities as safe as possible. The Imperial (2001 18th Street, NW), Adams Morgan dining destination which opened just months before COVID hit to an already impressive list of accolades and acclaim, is doing all of the above, by introducing a new takeout-only ghost kitchen pop-up called “Itty Bitty Sandwich City.” The playful pop-up is a casual diversion from its regular dinner menu, offering more than a dozen creative, affordable mini sandwiches, pie bites & bottled cocktails, launching on Wednesday, December 16. Scuttlebutt confirmed. Check out the anafre_pizza_menu (PDF).

From a press release:

“Chef Alfredo Solis has transformed his critically acclaimed restaurant, Anafre, into a pizzeria serving up Mexican-inspired pizzas.

Like many restaurants in DC right now, Anafre must adapt to stay afloat. The Mexican street food at Solis’ other restaurants, Mezcalero and El Sol, has proven to be a comfort to residents in times of uncertainty, but the seafood-heavy menu at Anafre doesn’t work as well for pandemic times.
