Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

I am desperately looking to see if anyone in DC can help me find my son’s bag— he lost his beloved stitch bag somewhere either on the 400 block of 11th St NE or by the Kennedy Center. He’s totally heartbroken. There was money in it (don’t care about recovering that back), but what is really most special is the actual purse and inside the plain black wallet that was a gift given to him. Is there any way you can help?”

If you spot it/have tips please email me at [email protected] and I’ll pass on to OP.

On November 26th we noted that things were not looking good for BestWorld staying open. A few new details have trickled in since then. First WaPo’s Aaron Wiener posted:

“BestWorld supermarket was set to be evicted this Wednesday for nonpayment of rent.

BUT a judge just remanded the case back to the magistrate judge, so the case is ongoing and BestWorld is NOT facing eviction Wednesday.

The court previously ordered BestWorld to pay $1.175 million to its landlord or be evicted.

BestWorld’s lawyer argued that the figure was too high, citing a disagreement over the lease terms.”

A reader sends in a fundraiser and notes:

“Good to hear, but it still looks like the handwriting is on the wall.”

The Fundraiser says:

“On Nov 23rd, BestWorld owners sadly let employees know they would be closing their doors on December 11th after a 27% rent increase from the landlords. With little notice, these 8 community members will be out of a job, after many have worked for BestWorld for more than a decade. (more…)
