Thanks to Terry for sending from Dupont Circle.
I’ll give you 50 cents* if you guess the license plate…
*I will not give you 50 cents for such an easy question.

Any chance this can possibly pass the House or is everything just symbolic these days?
From the Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton:
“Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) introduced a bill today to require members of the armed forces, including the National Guard, deployed in D.C. in response to an order of the president to address crime or civil disturbances to participate in a body camera program similar to the one in use by D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). MPD stores videos for defined periods of time based on the type of activity captured and provides access to the video for the public and the press.
“The Trump administration has deployed more than 2,000 troops to D.C. who are wholly unaccountable to D.C. residents. Even the D.C. National Guard troops are under the president’s control and do not report to the D.C. government,” Norton said. “This unwarranted deployment politicizes the military and does a disservice to members of the National Guard, who are being taken from their own families and jobs, and to D.C. residents, who neither requested nor consented to it. Body cameras would promote transparency and protect both the National Guard troops and D.C. residents from allegations of inappropriate or unlawful behavior.”

Thanks to Shawn for sending the photo above and asking for an update on the Due South that was coming to Chevy Chase in the former Organic Wine spot. Well I finally got the scoop on what’s going on. I spoke with owner Bo Blair yesterday who tells me that Due South has been scrapped but since they were able to get this larger space a whole new restaurant has been planned and it will be called Wheelhouse!!
While the menu will be different, Blair tells me “Wheelhouse will bring to Chevy Chase what Millie’s did for Spring Valley.” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Here are two trees purged due to RIFs, forks, early retirements, and office consolidations at EPA.
Not sure that they’d count, as they are sad and perplexing for entirely different reasons, but thought that I’d submit for your consideration! Only the popville commentariat will really understand.” (more…)

Thanks to a reader for sending around 7:30pm last night (Wed.) from Chevy Chase, DC:
“I heard a loud noise didn’t know what it was so ignored. Saw red light reflections in window later and then walked out to see the car on the lawn. Tore through fencing, flipped, hit a tree. People are saying it was going very very fast. Hope driver is okay was already sent to hospital when I went outside.” (more…)

From the Good People of Ivy & Coney:
“I was going to write my usual funny (or mildly chuckle-inducing) message to you. But honestly, times are tough these days and real harm is being done to our community, especially those of us that are black and brown. The city has been resilient, the people are protesting, and hopefully we’ll all survive these troubled times.
In order to not let the bastards beat us down, the race must go on. This coming Monday, we’ll be doing it up as we have these last three years. There will be stupidity, there will be fun, there will be drinking, and, of course, hot dogs. Hopefully, there won’t be any federal goons.
FYI: $5 of every ticket goes directly to our friends at Bread for the City. Their work is more vital than ever.
