“This evening around 5 PM, a victim who had just parked his vehicle near 3rd St SW and I St SW was approached by a group of 3-4 teenaged black males who demanded his property and took his vehicle. The vehicle was recovered nearly immediately after the suspects crashed near South Capitol and I Sts SW and ran away. While our patrol officers are actively searching, our detectives are still on the scene investigating. Anyone who may have seen either the carjacking or subsequent crash is encouraged to call the MPD tipline at 202-727-9099 or send an anonymous text to 50-411.”
