Downtown

901 New York Avenue, NW

“Dear PoPville,

Capitol Hill readers may remember our beloved breakfast haunt, Bagels & Baguettes, on the corner of 3rd and Mass NE.

Helen, the owner, is really struggling in her new location (901 New York Ave NW), and if things don’t go well, she’ll be gone within the year. The windows are dark, and the landlord/zoning won’t let her do sidewalk signage. She’s also right next to a Starbucks (which cannot compare to her fresh baked bagels and croissants!).

Anything readers can do to help get the word out to her new City Center neighborhood would be appreciated. Helen is the mom of two young teens and really needs the boost!”

Animal Fix

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share for the regular fix please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. AdoPtville is run by two volunteers who compile these pets weekly from local shelters.

This week’s Adoptville is dedicated to Elvis, the extraordinary, loving, and resilient rescue pup, who lived a long and love-filled life with Adoptville volunteer, Kristin.

Elvis passed away four weeks ago, just a few weeks shy of his 17th birthday. In addition to being a senior, Elvis also had special needs. He was deaf for the last four years of his life, lost his vision, and spent many years with congestive heart failure.

In honor of Elvis’ memory, Kristin has started a fundraiser to help other local senior and special needs dogs and cats who are looking for homes. You can learn more about Elvis and The Elvis Fund here.

Georgetown

1300 Wisconsin Ave, NW

This weekend I noticed the Georgetown store was having store closing sales. Didn’t realize it was the whole chain. Oof, I’d say I buy 75% of my cards here :(

CNN reports this morning: “Schurman Fine Paper, which owns the brand, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Thursday in a Delaware court. The company is closing all 254 of its US and Canada stores. More than 1,000 employees will lose their jobs.”

I think they have a Union Station location too. So where to buy card now?
