But please no personal attacks and no need to correct people’s grammar. This is a place to vent and/or celebrate things about daily life in D.C.

“Kirk and I are very excited to share that we’ll be opening a brand new Captain Cookie store at Eastern Market! Our official public opening will be Thursday, July 2 at 11am, and we will be open that day until 10pm. These will be our daily hours (open 7 days a week) until more people return to DC as reopening continues – at that point we anticipate expanding our hours. (more…)
Thanks to Stacie and Josh for sharing: “Hey, hey! We opened DC’s newest park today! Alethia Tanner Park (227 Harry Thomas Way, NE), named by popular community suggestion and vote, freed herself from slavery in 1810 by selling produce in Lafayette Park. She went on to free family members and friends, and help found churches and educational institutions in DC.
Proud to have worked on this amazing project. (more…)

Little Miss Evie is quite the diva! At 10 years young, Evie knows what she wants and how to get it. She loves to be on the highest space of the couch to survey her subjects, and she loves to be petted so much, she’ll make sure you know when she wants affection! Evie is house- and crate-trained, and weighs about 8 lbs. She is fine with other dogs but would also do well as an only dog, and would be better in a home without young children. Evie is a very sweet princess looking for an adoring family of her own. To find out more about adopting this little lady, go here.

Say hello to handsome Teddy, a cat who is a true survivor and a cuddlebug! This 8-year-old orange and white chonk has recently slimmed down from a whopping 22 lbs. to his currently svelte 16! Teddy has not had an easy life, but his friendly and affectionate attitude hasn’t changed. He absolutely loves people, including children, so long as everyone gives him a little time to get comfortable (see above regarding his less-than-ideal past). Teddy loves to be petted and to play with toys and explore; he’ll need to continue a healthy diet and regular exercise to stay healthy. Teddy lives with other cats in his foster home, but would also be fine as an only cat. He’s a gentle and happy guy looking for a second chance at the loving and kind home he deserves. Find out more about adopting Teddy here.

From the Mayor’s Office:
“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser issued the following statement after the House of Representatives voted 232-180 to pass the Washington, D.C. Admission Act (H.R. 51), the first time a chamber of Congress has approved a bill to make the District the 51st state.
Today, with this historic vote, DC is closer than we have ever been to becoming the 51st state.
More than 160 years ago, Washingtonian Frederick Douglass told us: Power concedes nothing without a demand. As Washingtonians and as taxpaying American citizens, we are demanding what is owed to us – the rights guaranteed to us by the U.S. Constitution.
It is past time to fix this injustice. It is true that DC is more brown and more liberal than many other states. But the issue of taxation without representation was settled more than 200 years ago through the Declaration of Independence, and disenfranchising more than 700,000 taxpaying Americans is wrong no matter our politics or demographics. Who we elect is our business, and denying us statehood based on who we might send to Congress is both undemocratic and un-American. (more…)
