Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

I am a recent law school graduate looking for a quiet space to study for the bar exam. My law school is closed and because of Covid-19 related closures, I can’t find anywhere to study. Although studying at home is an option, it is less than ideal. I was hoping the PoPville community might have some suggestions for quiet places to study right now. Being that I want to minimize possible exposure to Covid-19, I am also interested in renting a private space to study (for a reasonable price) through September. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or leads on places to study.

Also, because Covid-19, I should add that I wear a mask whenever I leave my house and have been practicing safe social distance habits since March. In short, I believe in masks, I avoid sharing my personal air with others, and I wash my hands regularly.

Thanks again for any help you can offer.”

“Dear PoPville,

I just saw the parking lady out writing tickets again, so I went and spoke to her. She told me that the green “2 hours OR a parking sticker” areas are fine to park in and no tickets are being written. But for any spots labeled “resident parking only” tickets are being written again for anyone parking there without a proper sticker. I also saw her write a ticket for someone who was parked past the last parking sign (parked too close to the corner).”

Well this is unexpected awesome news following last week’s announcement of a ‘Western Market’ location, comes word of a U Street location! Eater DC reports:

“Co-founder Michael Habtemariam says Roaming Rooster has started construction inside the building at 1301 U Street NW, which TaKorean vacated in October 2018. The company hopes to have a carryout operation set up there by mid-August or September.

Roaming Rooster opened their super popular Woodridge location near DC Brau in 2018.

Dupont Circle

1307 New Hampshire Avenue, NW

From The Heurich House:

“The Heurich House Museum’s historic Castle Garden opened on Tuesday, June 30th, in a new, socially distant format. [The museum itself still remains closed for now.]

Visitors can reserve a garden “pod” to enjoy the summer weather, hang out with friends, or use our free WiFi to get some work done. The garden will be open by reservation only every Tuesday through Thursday from 11am to 5pm.

A pod is a specific area of mowed lawn in the garden designated for your group only – we have measured them out so they are at least 6 feet from other pods and the common walkway. Some pods contain shade and some are in full sun. Size varies, with some pods accommodating up to 4 visitors, while others are large enough for 6 (refer to pod map below).

Reservations are available in 2 shifts: 11am-2pm and 2pm-5pm. Guests are welcome to reserve multiple shifts.

Park View

3227 Georgia Ave, NW

Thanks to Nate and Tom for sending: “Tabla opened quietly over the weekend in Park View. This is the smaller-size spinoff Georgian restaurant from the people who run Supra on 11th Street. The wife and I went there for take-out today. Great food, decent prices, cool spot. Next time we’ll dine in on their patio.”

From a press release:

“Jonathan and Laura Nelms, owners of Supra, announce the July 6 opening of D.C.’s second Georgian restaurant, Tabla. Tabla will be a casual neighborhood restaurant at the corner of Lamont Street and Georgia Avenue in the Park View neighborhood (between Petworth and Howard University). In accordance with DC regulations, Tabla will begin with modified service to include takeout, outdoor seating on the 25-seat patio, and spaced indoor seating at 50% capacity. Contactless ordering and delivery service will be available in the near future through the DC-based Table Side app.

‘Tabla’ is a Georgian word for an outdoor table used to serve the copious amounts of food characteristic of a traditional supra, a celebratory feast enjoyed in the country. The culinary team at Tabla, led by Chef Lonnie Zoeller and Supra veteran Alfredo Martinez, with input from Georgian national and Supra Chef Ani Kandelaki, have created a menu centered around khachapuri and khinkali (soup dumplings). In addition to classic varieties of these Georgian favorites, Tabla looks forward to rolling out its own versions of the stuffed cheese breads and dumplings using seasonal ingredients, playful twists on tradition, or whatever the chefs come up with when inspiration strikes.
