From the DC Office of the Attorney General (OAG):
“Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today announced that 7-Eleven will pay $1.2 million to resolve allegations that the company violated DC’s ban on the sale of vapes and e-cigarettes within a quarter mile of middle and high schools. An investigation by the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) revealed that, since the ban went into effect in October 2022, sixteen 7-Eleven convenience stores near DC schools illegally sold thousands of electronic smoking devices. After OAG’s investigation, 7-Eleven removed electronic smoking devices from the shelves at stores within prohibited school zones. Now, as part of a settlement, the chain, in addition to paying a monetary penalty, must permanently stop all sales and marketing of these devices at its stores near DC schools, provide training to staff, and monitor franchise stores to ensure compliance with DC law. DC Legendary Musicians, Inc. celebrates its 20th Anniversary with Spirit, Sanctuary, Silence & Sound, an evening honoring Washington, DC’s musical legacy, cultural memory, and community service. Founded in 2006 by Rev. Dr. Sandra Butler-Truesdale, DCLM has spent two decades recognizing the musicians, elders, artists, and cultural workers who helped shape DC’s sound.
The celebration will include music, recognition, community gathering, and a special tribute to the symbolic legacy of Ron McNair — astronaut, physicist, and saxophonist. The evening also marks the launch of renewed DCLM programming, including Second Sunday Sound, Silence & Sanctuary, the Annual Thanksgiving Drive, and the renewal of an Annual Health Fair connected to DC Legendary Musicians Way near 6th and T Street NW.

“The PTO of Ida B. Wells Middle School and the PSCO of John Lewis Elementary School are reaching out as neighbors and fellow Ward 4 community members who care deeply about the Hernandez family.
On Wednesday, September 3, 2025, after dropping his child off at John Lewis Elementary School, our neighbor and friend was suddenly detained by federal agents on his way to work. He has been held at a detention center in Chantilly, Virginia for one week and has since been moved to a detention center in Texas. His wife has only been able to speak with him twice.
The family has called Petworth home for the past eight years. (more…)
