Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

I’m looking to move neighborhoods and wasn’t sure about the best way to go about that sort of lease swap in DC? I’d like to get out of the lease but without outright breaking it and incurring the associated fees. The lease terms allow you to find someone else to take over the remainder of the lease. I.e., I have 7 months left on it, so if I found an interested person, they would sign for the remainder of the time and I would be off the hook for rent: my lease would become theirs and my name would be taken off. If I just told the building “I want out” there’s a 2 month rent cost penalty to end the lease early. I wanted to see if anyone had any tips for finding a lease replacement?”
