From the Nationals:

“The Washington Nationals have agreed to a multi-year contract extension with President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo.

Rizzo, 59, was rewarded with this contract after serving as the architect of the Washington Nationals 2019 World Series Championship. Under Rizzo’s leadership, the Nationals have transformed into one of Major League Baseball’s perennially elite clubs, winning a World Series in 2019, earning four National League East titles (2012, 2014, 2016, 2017) and one Wild Card berth (2019) in the last eight seasons. Ed. Note: Yesterday there were 14,186 total positives.

From the Mayor’s Office:

“The District’s reported data for Friday, September 4, 2020 includes 52 new positive coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, bringing the District’s overall positive case total to 14,238.

The District reported no additional COVID-19 related deaths.

Tragically, 611 District residents have lost their lives due to COVID-19.

The community spread chart is subject to fluctuation because the data is based on symptom onset date. As national demand for testing increases and results take longer to come back in DC and across the country, DC Health has identified a need to increase the reporting lag time by four days to reduce volatility in the data. The most recent data reflects an increase in community spread. To ensure this graph accurately reflects the most recent data, the community spread count is being paused as these adjustments are made.” (more…)

gardening

Thanks to Jessica for sending from Truxton Circle: “Urban front yard gardens require camouflage so that the red tomatoes can be disguised behind the veiling shishito peppers and fuzzy green okra. Veggie camouflage friends also include mint, rosemary, thai birdseye chilis, and some shy cucumbers who weren’t photo ready today.”

Please send your hauls to [email protected] and let me know what neighborhood it was grown in. Entries will be accepted through Labor Day weekend.

“Dear PoPville,

On this super hot/humid thursday (9/3) morning I was walking by Tryst on 18th after taking a run and saw a super cute woman sitting & reading at one of the outdoor tables in the corner of the patio (I think she was wearing a Michigan shirt)

I wish I had said something at the time but didn’t! Wanted to put this out there if she noticed a guy walking by (around 9:00am) in orange/pink shorts and a gray T-shirt wearing a mask. If this is you and you did notice me please reach out!! I feel crazy doing this, but it’s COVID so why not!”

Ed. Note: If this is you, please email [email protected] so I can put you in touch with OP. PoPville is not affiliated with either party, please proceed with any potential connection at your own risk using caution as you would any online encounter. For those curious about past missed connections, some have been made and when possible I’ll try to update when/if more are made.

Also our last missed connection at Tryst resulted in two connections sadly they were not the missed one.

AdoPtville is run by two volunteers who compile these pets weekly from local shelters.

Meet Jackie, an adorable pooch who lives for belly rubs and giving kisses. She does all the silly puppy things, like zoomies around the house, chasing her tail, and barking at her goofy reflection. Jackie does wonderfully with other playful dogs, but she is a little too lively for the senior dog in her foster home. This smartie pants already knows the word “sit”. She is a little nervous around new humans, but she warms up quickly. Jackie gets startled by loud noises, so she’s working on building her confidence on leash around construction and skateboards. As a young pup, Jackie needs exercise, and her favorite way to burn off energy is on doggie play dates. Apply today to get a best friend for life through City Dogs Rescue.

Mama Toston is a regal bobtailed lady! She is incredibly sweet, and purrs like crazy when she gets to lie next to her person and get some good old fashioned chin scratches. She has the most adorable deep meow sound ever! Don’t be fooled by her calm, dignified demeanor–bring out the feather toy, and watch her jump around like she’s a kitten!
