Animal Fix

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share for the regular fix please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. AdoPtville is run by two volunteers who compile these pets weekly from local shelters.

Oreo is a work in progress. You know the type, shy at first, jumps at noises? Once you give him a chance to warm up to you and your home, he is an affectionate and playful youngster that will cuddle up next to you, and sleep on your feet and try to catch them through the blankets. He has the softest meow and when his foster mom asks him if he wants food, he follows her into the kitchen and lets her know, yes, he has a rumbly tummy and is ready for dinner!

Just 6 years old, this boy will come when you call him, and will head butt you until you pet him. Oreo enjoys looking out a sunny window at the squirrels that run around the deck, and playing with his ball-in-circle toy. Because he takes a while to get comfortable and warm up to someone, we recommend he be a solo cat in a quieter home.

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

I just had the worst experience with an uber (Thursday night). I requested an Uber XL to pick me up from a baan siam and drop me home. The uber arrived opened the the trunk of his car. I asked him to flip down the back seat so we could get my wheelchair in. The driver said okay, got in his car and drove away canceling the trip. (more…)

Petworth

Georgia and Upshur Street, NW

A few folks have been writing in: “I noticed that work has started on the interior of the old Slim’s Diner in Petworth. Any idea of what is going to open in its place?”

A few weeks ago Eater DC reported:

“The chef behind one of the most respected barbecue joints in the D.C. area will turn his attention to fried chicken buckets, chicken wings, and chicken sandwiches at a new restaurant coming to Petworth’s main drag later this year. (more…)

Zoo

From the Smithsonian’s National Zoo:

“Yesterday morning, giant panda Mei Xiang stepped out of the den, and the panda team retrieved her 6-week-old cub for another quick checkup. During last week’s exam, the cub largely napped through the process. That was not the case with this exam–the cub was wide awake, alert and very vocal while we took its measurements! It weighed 1.66 kilograms (3.6 pounds) and measured 14 inches from nose to tail tip. Its abdominal girth remained steady at 12.5 inches.

One new and exciting development is that the cub’s eyes are beginning to open! They will be fully open around 8 weeks of age. (more…)

gardening

Thanks to David for sending: “I know your great garden haul is done for the year, but you’ve got to give props for those who grow exotic fruits in the area whose fruit ripens very late (or in the case of the bananas, probably not at all). Here you see an Asian prickly citrus from 10th and N; passion fruit from 11th and N; bananas at 10th and Blagden Alley and pomegranates also at 11th and N.” (more…)

Yesterday there were 15,358 total positives.

Ed. Note: Comments have been closed because the broken record has become grating, at best. Please continue to wear a face covering when you leave home and get tested if you are not well or think you have been exposed.
