“Dear PoPville,
I never do this, but it’s 2020, so why not? I’m a single straight cis woman in her 30s who loves to bike on the weekends – it’s been the best part of the pandemic for me. On my ride yesterday [Saturday], I came across a cute guy in a blue biking top right before the bike bridge to Bladensburg sitting down on the grass off the trail. My gut reaction was to ask if he was okay (if he needed help with his bike since I carry some tools with me), and he said he was just stopping to watch the crows and thanked me for asking.
I slowed down but didn’t stop and didn’t realize until after the fact that he said something else so …. maybe he was trying to chat? Anyways, I was on a white bike with a blaze orange jacket and a pink mask.
On a side note – do you know of any resources for single adults at high risk for covid complications here in the District? (more…)

“The three-week era of Wine Bar B has concluded as this establishment reverts to the original name it jettisoned over the summer as culturally insensitive. Mystified by the thought process here.”
From Barkada:
“We started off on the wrong foot, so we spent time re-thinking our brand and what we stand for. The concept for our small business was always rooted in friendship, which like any valued relationship must be evaluated, recommitted, and earned. In our process of listening to our community and learning from friends, old and new, we began collaborating with a Filipina-owned social media/marketing company and sought out partnerships with brands that we are proud to carry. Many of them are BIPOC, LGBTQ, and female-owned that support immigrants and indigenous communities. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
We stripped the paint off our 100 year old house and repointed. However, once the paint was removed, we discovered what looks like concrete smeared all over the bricks. Our masons used muric acid and a brush, and tried to power wash the concrete off using a little bit of pressure, but they claim they can’t get the concrete off further. They say that power washing with more pressure will damage the bricks, and sanding the bricks or chiseling the bricks will break them. (more…)
Local rising kindergartener, Phin, has advanced to the Top 5 in his group in the national Jr. Ranger Contest, a competition that celebrates children who are passionate about nature, wildlife, and exploration. After making it through earlier rounds with strong family and friend support, Phin is now in 4th place and working toward the top spot needed to move on to the quarterfinals.
The contest encourages kids to engage with the outdoors and highlights their curiosity and love for learning about the natural world. For Phin and his family, this experience has been both exciting and meaningful, made even more special by the encouragement from friends, neighbors, and the broader community.
