Many, many rounds of cannon fire/booms reported to us this morning. This comes up every few months, just enough time to forget why it’s happening for a minute :)
From a previous discussion revealed by old guard alum:
“The Old Guard’s Presidential Salute Battery conducts rehearsals (aka Blank-Fire Crew Drills) on Thursday mornings starting at 0700 in Arlington National Cemetery and on Ft. Myer. These drills are used to rehearse for upcoming ceremonies and certify new Soldiers on the ceremonial 105mm howitzer cannons. They do the drills before the cemetery opens for the day. The modified howitzers can only fire blank rounds; no projectiles.
During changes in the seasons (usually late spring or early fall), the sound from the blank shots tends to travel further and more residents hear it. Not sure if it has something to do with the changing temp… foliage…?”
I know it’s not Thursday but this is still my guess.

A neighboring property is undergoing construction – it’s legal construction, with permits. It’s being done by a developer, but it’s changed hands, so we don’t know who the poc is now. There appears to be a lot of accumulated construction debris in the backyard for a while. Are they not supposed to be cleaning that up on a regular basis? Do we complain to DCRA or someone else? Any guidance would be appreciated.”

Help! Some a-holes stole my Prius’ catalytic converter last night [Thursday], confirmed by the crazy loud engine sound when I started it and from my neighbor’s security camera. Unfortunately, this seems to be happening a lot throughout the country as these things have a hefty resale value. I’m hoping someone has advice on how to get it fixed and not break the bank, whether to go through my insurance company (I’ve already called the police to file a report), and most importantly how to prevent it from happening again since I have to park on the street.“
