“Dear PoPville,
This 17-year old Massospora fungus-free male is patiently waiting for my one true love to land back in my life. Can you hear my sweet song?
Our first meeting was brief, but I have been waiting my entire life to meet someone like you. In July, I was relaxing in a Cedar in Lincoln Park, thinking about the animated friends I’d made over the past six weeks. You dropped in and made a silly comment about all the four-legged animals running around free. As we both laughed, our red eyes connected, and I could tell this was a love years in the making. Thanks to Jennifer for sending: “Here’s my last garden haul of the summer. I’ll be clearing out the planters to make way for fall radishes and carrots this weekend.
These were grown in five over-the-rail planters on our rear patio, in Anacostia. We have serrano and shishito peppers, dinosaur kale, two dwarf varieties of eggplants (Little Fingers and Chinese String) and green onions (these bulbs will be dehydrated and used for onion salt, since the texture isn’t the best).”
Please send your great garden hauls via email to [email protected] with Garden Haul in the subject line and let me know what you’ve grown and what neighborhood you are in. Entries will be accepted through Labor Day. Cheers, thanks and happy gardening! Great Garden Haul is made possible, ironically, by the Friends of the White Whale Society.

“Dear PoPville,
Emissary Pergamino on this saturday early afternoon. We shared a table with an umbrella because it began to rain and wrote in our respective journals. I enjoyed our slightly awkward chat before you left. If you’re ever at that cafe again let’s get a coffee and have a full conversation.”
