“Dear PoPville,

Question for you/popville: what’s chicken bacon ranch pizza guy up to? Hope he’s doing alright and eating all the CBR he has ever hoped for.”

Ask and ye shall receive:

“Hey, guys. It’s me — Chicken Bacon Ranch guy.

Surely you remember, five years ago, when hundreds of this blog’s commenters chewed me up and spat me out like a chicken ranch slice with no bacon on it. A few of you came to my aid, but most of you were hungry for my blood. I was hungry only for Chicken Bacon Ranch.

You called me a “dunce,” “an asshat,” and an “over-entitled d-bag.” You insulted my home state, saying I was a “typical mouthy New Yorker,” and that I should go back there (I didn’t). Thank god I’m anonymous.

I doubt anyone needs a recap of what happened, but if you moved here pre-Trump, you might not understand the regularunending references made to me and my favorite pizza. For those of you not familiar with the events that led us here, I’ll sum it up more briefly than I did in 2015: (more…)

Thanks to Lisa for sharing this much needed happiness:

“I was out with friends on a Potomac Paddle Club sunset cruise on Tues night… and around 8pm, we spied this “Marry Me” pop-up on the Watergate Steps in front of the Lincoln Memorial.

In a matter of minutes, a group of people had created a pathway with red carpet, heart balloons, and two different light boxes: one said “Marry” and the other said “Me”. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

What’s up with the tenant in the Barclay Apartment building at 16th and Corcoran St, NW? Someone throws popcorn out, I suppose to feed the birds and squirrels. It’s contributing to the rat problem. I have left messages with the building with no response. #stopthepopcorn It happens regularly. I work evenings and night shifts sometimes and at night it definitely attracts rats. I took this picture a few night ago. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I live on a fairly busy corner. It’s not a massive thoroughfare but it’s got it’s fair share of traffic, and it has a very long light. I’m probably noticing more because I’m working from home these days, but there are consistently a handful of cars that drive by without mufflers or with muffler amplifiers. They are INCREDIBLY loud and often during the early morning. Today, literally a small child started crying when a GT drove by with a muffler delete because she was so startled and scared of the noise. Traffic is loud enough as is and I know the DMV area does not permit any exhaust system amplification but I’m wondering if there’s an agency I can report the license plates to? As far as I can tell you can only report unsafe drivers.”

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve lived in my English Basement for about 3 years now and I’ve never had an issue with bugs/insects. Over the past 2-3 weeks I have seen a significant increase in the number of houseflies. I’ve purchased window fly strips, a sticky fly wand and one of those “Fly Bags” you fill with water and put it outside my house. The issue continues to persist and I cannot find the source of the issue. Do you have any other tips on how to remove the flies? I’m catching at least 30 a day. Is this something that will subside after the summer months or does anyone have any success stories?”

“Dear PoPville,

I live in a high-rise “luxury” building in NW, less than 3 years old. My roommate and I were the first people to live in our unit.

In May, we noticed a minor bug problem, and called maintenance. Since then we’ve discovered we have a huge cockroach infestation. At the worst point we were killing 20+ full-sized roaches in a day. Now we see only a few a week, but they persist.

I have had to plead with our building to send out pest control multiple times, and they’ve now been out 7 times, and done an entire apartment spray 3 times where they spray the baseboards. (more…)

Thanks to Rachel for sending the warning: “Sending you pictures of a massive hornet’s nest hanging above the sidewalk on 3rd St NE in Eckington (on the block between V and U). Super dangerous and our calls to DC’s 311 don’t seem to have helped. Spreading the word for good measure!”

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to share a quick story of gratitude tonight. I had dinner at a friends house in Mt. Pleasant tonight, and when I got in my car to leave, I realized I had a very flat tire. My friend and I were deciding whether I should just leave it or if I could make it home safely to Petworth and deal with it tomorrow. I opted for the latter, but drove only a half a block when it became obvious that I could not drive with this tire. I pulled over on Monroe, on the East side of 16th, and a man named Ralph stopped to ask if I needed help. He pulled over and he began to help put on my spare, but it was rough getting the tire off. Two other guys, Pedro and Juan, came upon the scene, (more…)
